Space games
« on: July 23, 2008, 05:33:21 PM »
where has all the old space games gone like freelancer, the most recent FPS space game was spaceforce rogue universe, and that sucked. it was a very good concept, but the tutorial was nonexistant and the storyline wanted me to jab forks into the scriptmakers eyes, it was THAT bad.

when do you think the space genre will restart if ever? :(

Exodus, Nemesis and myself and our friends still play good ol' Freelancer occasionally. Still an excellent game.

Also Gunner, my friends started playing "X2" and "X3" - you might try googling those games. They say that they are both excellent games, similar to Freelancer.

the game mass effect for 360 takes place in space for the most part.  and so do the KOTOR series for pc and xbox take place in space for the most part.  but like you a too am missing the good old space adventures.

Well they liked them. Doesn't mean everyone does :)

(Personally, from watching them, they tried to make it overcomplicated)

Was always a fan of Wing Commanders 3, 4, and Prophecy. Great space combat games.

Too bad Origin got merged with EA, I bet we could've had more games in the space genre from them.

I also want to add Privateer and Descent:Freespace to the list.

Descent II in 3-D FTW!

('Hardly a "space game," tho....)

So, um, I don't get the question in the initial post.  ::)

Are you asking whether the "space THEME" is gone, or if "combat action games with role-playing aspects" are dying?

Do "near-planet" games like flight simulators qualify?

Anyway, since I like RTSs, the "space game" (CB)MMORTS that I LOVE (it's SOOOoo adictive!) I'd have to say Time of Defiance [ (lame) Wiki page ] is my FAVORITE, ... but I can only play it once every few YEARS, since it keeps me up for DAYS at a time. (I went five days playing it once only taking naps of ~20 minutes every several hours or so....  :embarrassing: )

One of the main reasons that I LOVE the game in that the "playing field" is HUGE(!), and the AI is excellent! (ROFL!  THERE IS NO AI!! Player's systems/ships/machines continue to operate on your pre-set instructions while you're away!)

It's a pay-to-play game, but there's a free short-duration (like 7 days) trial download, but don't say that I didn't warn you if you try it! (Hint: If you DO try it, BE SURE to read their Quick Start Guide AND the entire FAQ!)
