After buying Halo, I created my name, "boots", as a standing until I was skilled enough at multiplayer to do justice to "Nintu-Btel", the name of the awesome Parthian General from Rome: Total War (Faction Ldr, 10 Command, 4 Management, 10 Influence) I dominated with back in the day...
"boots" was a name that was unassuming and that wouldn't offend anyone, and it also carries a slight military connotation with a grunt--in the real-world sense of the word. The fact that I stuck with "boots", I suppose, means that I prefer to be humble to avoid embarrassment, that I play as a team player, and also that I'm sentimental--because I got too attached to how people knew me as "boots" to leave the name behind, even for as epic of a name as "Nintu-Btel".
