Something is obsolete in
FIVE YEARS?!?Ack! I'm over 50!!! 
Actually, computer components & "portable electronic devices" are considered "out-of-date" in ....
6 months now....
And computers are considered to have a practical lifetime of (at most)
two years!
So what's this mean? Well, for one thing it means that if you have some electronic technology that you have/use for LONGER than these periods, you've MADE $$ off of them, and done a Good Deed for the environment!
It also means that we'd better figure out a better way to deal with all this obsolete technology - most of which qualifies as "hazardous waste" - before we're up to our armpits in it!!
