It's really very simple!:

Start -> My Computer, and DOUBLE-click on the (virtual) drive that has the Halo CD (stop calling it "Custom," you're just confusing yourself!  ::) :LOL: ) image mounted on it.

Voila!  The Halo installer screen should pop up!

...And ... I didn't know that it was even POSSIBLE to run Halo CE without having Halo (PC) installed first!?!  You're SURE that it isn't installed somewhere but just not showing up in your Programs menu?... Oh NEVERMIND!  Just do the above steps and (re)install it!)

You don't need the CD to run Halo anymore (last time i checked.)

I have the CD...the image I have will not let me install Halo...and this is obviously frustrating all of us, so I'm just going to wait until I can get another CD drive, which is the true problem in all of this...I think we got off track a little bit  ::)

Well here's what I would do!:

BORROW a CD drive from another computer there, or friend's computer, hook it up and make the Halo CD image and/or install Halo from it, then put the CD drive back.

If you're going to BUY one just for this, then find one that's a USB external drive and spend the extra $10 for that, and never have to deal with not having a CD/DVD drive on a machine ever again....

Of course I have 3 used CD drives sitting on my workbench in my garage tho....  (Don't get excited: 'Not worth shipping $$ to send them....  ::))

great advice...however the computer I have was purchased through my school, so there are 900+ of these laptops stored there, and just as many CD drives that I can get for free due to the warranty I have  :shades:

....Today I just realized how weird this whole situation has been... :o

To make sure that it wasn't just the Halo CD acting up I put in a few other CD's to test it out. First I tried my Itunes CD, only one visible, but minor scratch, and it didn't work. I then tried the CD used to install my digital camera's software onto the computer, no visible scratches, near perfect condition except for maybe one spot, and it didn't work.

Then...I tried the Orange Box CD, which before the RAM upgrade I couldn't run because of supposed "DirectX" problems...and it worked...wait....what?!? :o :o :o

It's taunting me... :-X :-X :-X...that's the only logical conclusion I can come to  :-\

Needless to say I'm getting a new CD drive on Tuesday and I'm bringing both my Halo and Orange Box CD's to test it out again

That really is ODD! It seems temperamental. A bit like my laptop CD drive. (The loudest thing you ever did hear...)

Well once you've re-installed Halo and updated to 1.08 you won't need the/a CD any more!  (Except when you need to reinstall AGAIN some time in the future!  ::)  ;D )
