Sigs or avatars
« on: March 09, 2009, 03:20:51 AM »
How do you post your avatar or sig on the site, once you have created it?

Thanks all

Avatar at the top, signature at the bottom!

For the signature, you have to put the image brackets around the link for the pic, like this:

Code: [Select]
[IMG] goes at the beginning of the link

[/IMG] goes at the end of the link

The link goes in the middle.

For the avatar, you just need the http link-thing for the pic, no image brackets.

You also need to have them on a site like Photobucket, ImageShack or such... you can't upload them to this site from your home PC.  Then you'd use the link how Jane described (very well, I might add) to the sig or avatar from its location on Photobucket (or other such site).

Please be careful about the size and number of signature pics as it can make any threads you post in load slowly for those with a "less than fast" connection.  :smly_a_wink:

Oh, Sst, you were the one who did this thread! :P  I sent this to you in a PM but you don't seem to have seen it at this time.

The above link goes to your Forum Profile Info section, found in the menu to the left in your profile ( at the top).

You have three options, and you probably don't want the first. Whichever you choose, be sure to click the circle next to the one you want.

- Personalized Picture: You can pick an avatar from whatever is in stock. Choose Actors or Musicians and then pick from the list.

- I Have My Own Pic: This image will have to come from a photo hosting site, like Photobucket, or an avatar website, or you can pull an image off the internet somewhere. Whichever you choose, it has to be an actual website address/link/URL.  See below for details on taking any image from the internet.

- I Will Upload My Own Pic: This will come directly off your computer, like if you make something yourself and don't upload it to Photobucket. Click "Browse" and it opens your Pictures folder and pick your pic. For some reason, it didn't work the first time I tried. So I tried again. :P  The avatar I have now is something off my computer and is a lot bigger than avatar-sized things, so you can see how things look when they're squashed down.

Pulling things off the internet: I don't know if you know how to do this but... If you see some pic you like somewhere and want it as your avatar or sig, right-click the image and go to Properties in the menu. In the middle, there will be Address (URL) and you will copy that link.

For an avatar, you just put that URL in the I Have My Own Pic line. For a sig, you have to put the image brackets around the link.

Code: [Select]

[img]   will go at the beginning of the link

[/img]   will go at the end of the link

It will look like this in your sig:

Let me know if you need more help. If this PM doesn't clear it up for you, xfire would be the best way to get it done. Or at least the faster way. :P

I see what you're doing, I had the same problem myself when I first tried.

First, you have to remove the IMG brackets, they are only for signatures. Second, you have to remove the extra http:// that is already there before you put anything in there.

Go back to your profile, highlight the whole thing you've got there now, and paste this in it/over it:

Code: [Select]
http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/ss307/Sst_01/Sstavatar.jpg^^ this is how it SHOULD be

Right now, yours is like this:

Code: [Select]
http://^^ this is wrong

It's the IMG and the extra http that's messing it up.
