HELP WIth no sound.
« on: March 05, 2009, 07:18:55 AM »
A fellow Technician I work with has deleted his audio drivers/device. I am not sure how to fix it in an inexpensive manner. I tried a restore but it gives me no option for one. He is running XP. To do the restore I went, Start->ControlPanel->System->SystemRestore. There was no option there to do the restore. Any Ideas on what I can do to fix his comp?

All righty. All you have to do is download the drivers and install them on the computer, should fix it. If he doesn't know which drivers he needs to download he should download a program called Everest Home Edition 2.20. This will tell him the name of his audio devices, just type the device and driver into google and you should be fine.

EX: SoundMax blah blah blah drivers free download

After that just install the drivers and all should be a-okay.

... OR you could (if you haven't added any audio devices since it was purchased) use the (mobo) installation CD that came with it to res-install the original audio drivers again.... ('Least painful method, I think.)

If you have a "brand name" computer, go to the computer manufacturer's website and look up the drivers by the make/model of your computer, in their "Support" section.

Well the real problem is he deleted his actual Device. If you go to Audio tab it doesnt give you an option under Devices. I think Mxy's suggestion would also fix that.

Yep.... So long as it's like I said: It's NOT an ADDITIONAL audio device that was not added after-the-original (on-board one.)
