See I'm not vulnerable to that trick because I never stop when I'm getting shot at :P. I always look at my shields first, and then reverse if its my team mate.

The correct way to hijack a hog is to leave a plate with a big juicy slice of pie in the middle of the track. When the driver hops out to nomnomnom the pie, u get in and drive away.
