Stuck on "Earth?"...
« on: October 15, 2007, 10:21:16 AM »

... Then do as I do, and CRUISE THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE (as you know it, that is!)

We 5th-dimensional imps just bop around wherever/whenever we like, but you beings stuck in the 3rd dimension - and on a lone rock, I might add - need to "get out and about" more often!

So if you're getting tired of the drudgery of "Mother Earth" and exploring it with the likes of Google Earth, then Celestia is for YOU!  (SW works on all (3) platforms, too!)

Double-click to center an object, right-click & hold to look around!

Center your pointer on a distant star/planet, right-click it and choose "Goto" and ZOOM to the object light years away in just a few seconds!

Play with the settings while in your own "Solar System" and do things like view the earth from the moon as it travels around your measly little planet!

All based on REAL DATA, too!

Enjoy!

Mr. Mxy that is really cool!  I turned it on a while ago and played with it, then I just set it up on earth and I'm watching the lights turn on from east to west.  When I was playing with it I just got "lost in space"  :siderofl:  Danger, Danger Will Robinson!  Looking at the earth that way makes you think what a blunder that the Russians let Alaska go.

'Glad you're all enjoying it!

You can do some cool stuff with the "tracking" options, too, like place yourself behind the moon facing earth and watch the daylight cycles. (Hint: bump up time rate to like 10000x!)

Also, locate a star from the Solar system view and go to it.  Now locate another star outward in that same (general) direction. Continue until NO MORE STARS to follow (in that direction) and CHECK OUT YOUR DISTANCE FROM Sol!  Yikers!

There are hundreds of add-ons, too. (Try some of the Messier Nebula and other nebulaeAWESOME!)

I've been playing with Celestia since 2003, btw.  I just got through looking up Alpha-Ceti for someone and it came to me that I've never mentioned it here....
