WAKE-UP-POST!
Well, a couple of interesting developments since I started this thread (which was mostly due to the fact that BOINC had added GPU=based number-crunching capability to its support.)
First, the GPU-based computation is SO FAST it's CRAZY!
Second, Due to the above, SETI@home has RUN OUT OF DATA FOR ITS USERS TO PROCESS on several occasions!
(I.e. It is now being computed faster than they can get it from the radio-telescopes and process it for SETI@home distribution!)
Sooo, Third, I went looking for other BOINC projects to keep my lonely CPUs/GPUs busy when SET@home data was unavailable, and went looking to join the Folding@Home BOINC group. The problem: There IS NO F@H BOINC GROUP! The Folding@Home people are at Stanford, so they wrote their own BOINC-like software so they wouldn't have to use their cross-town rival's BOINC software!
UGH!
That means I'd have to run two DIFFERENT, UNCOORDINATED sets of analysis software to run them both at once.
No Can Do!So I guess Folding@Home is out of the picture for me now. (Since with BOINC I have dozens of choices of analysis software to run versus F@H which is only one, Folding@Home...)
So I can't make up my mind, and I've decided to let y'all choose for me:Which one of these projects should I join?P.S. I've now "donated" over 380,000 CPU-hours to SETI@home! Wow!
