I can't remember if Doom ever made it to the PC....i dont think so but it might have.
Made it to the PC?   Didn't DOOM originate on the PC? One of my all-time favorite DOS games! I believe Wolfenstein 3D preceeded DOOM though.

I dunno i thought it came out on NES/SNES (Can't remeber which) followed by a port to the Sega Genisis that contained improved graphics but was missing half the levels. Also the version of wolfenstein that i currently own was an updated version that is on a CD a runs using windows.

Wiki seems to substantiate my theory that it was a PC game originally. released in 1993 alongside a shareware preview.
Not sure about the (s)nes..... It doesn't matter anyway. The only thing that matters is that it's fully Awesome!!

Lol Liam I remember the old DOS wolfenstein game... indeed oldy but goodie.  (wasn't that the first PC shooter...ever?)

I remember playing Castle Wolfenstein on an Apple ][ C with a green monitor.  The game barely fit on a 5.25" floppy floppy disk.  Ah, the memories!

Agreed!!!!

LOL This thread has turned into remembering old PC shooters that rocked
Another olderish one (03 or 04....ok not that old) Farcry, I still can't run this game on full performance settings 5 years after it was released.....seriously i have to run it on low....and my computer while not great, can run COD4 on medium settings. so that's kinda interesting.

Anyway great game, one of the first open world, choose ur path shooters with a great story and good level designs.

Plus it has monsters  :ssh: :ssh:  :ssh: (That comes later) :ssh: :ssh: :ssh:

How is this possible? I've read this entire thread and no one has mentioned.
Left 4 Dead or Team Fortress 2
Both are amazing shooters. I highly recommend them.

Again another awesome sig by BFM_Plixity! Thanks!

My favs going from old to new (all on PC). I wont go into the old N64 and Gamecube games just to many :P

Quake 2 (my first online game on dial up - Jan 1998)
Crimson Skies (flight combat though)
Mechwarrior 3 (mech combat though)
Halo: Combat Evolved
Half Life 2
Counter Strike Source
Starwars Jedi Outcast
Battlefield 2
Doom 3
Crysis (played Jan 2008)
Left 4 Dead

Big jumps in the past 10 years from Quake 2 to Crysis in terms of Graphics.

Don't mean to gravedig, but this man right here is dead on. Team Fortress 2 is one of the best shooting games I have ever played. Plus it gets constant updates from the makers (in the PC version at least). Be warned though, as it is only multiplayer.

thanks for the sig Tanxs1

thanks plix

thanks batman

I seem to have tons, most of which I haven't gotten a chance to play yet since I just recently got a new hard drive with room to fit them on. I've got:

Halo
Crysis
Gears of War
2142 Battlefield
Turok
Call of Juarez
Delta Force 2
Delta Force Land Warrior
Rainbow Six Vegas 2
Left 4 Dead
Prey
Bioshock

Can't say much on Rainbow Six, Turok, Prey, or Call of Juarez since I just installed them.
Halo is, as all of you know, loads of fun.
Crysis is gorgeous and fun, interesting story and environment to run around in.
Gears of War has some awesome controls, but I haven't gotten around to beating it yet, and only played online with it for a while before losing interest.
2142 had a nice presentation, but I couldn't get it work online so I just gave up on it.
Delta Force 2 and Land Warrior were my first PC shooters, probably around 7 or 8 years ago. I put loads of hours into those, but never played them online. Still fun games, and I bought Delta Force 2 again through Steam so I could play it on my laptop.
Left 4 Dead is probably my favorite and most played game this year. I can't remember when I got it, but I play it almost once a day at least.
Bioshock is an interesting game. The controls and shooting were hard to get used to at first. I played through about 15-20% of this, but since I got a new hard drive I'll have to re-install it and start over again, this time on a much lower difficulty setting.
