Out of curiosity, what resolution are you running halo in, and what resolution is your desk top, when it is running?

Lemme guess....

...You're playing on a wireless connection? (...And all your "testing" of the problem was a nothing but a huge case of red herring....)

Nope, phone line goes from the phone jack to the back of the modem, then there's a cord going from the modem to the computer  ::)  I read these tech boards just enough to know that if I was on wireless, to mention it  :P

I have tried turning off decals, and just about every other possible combination of settings.

Mite be better and quicker if you post your settings here, instead of us trying to guess the problem. Just a thought :)

IN NON WINDOW MODE:

RESOLUTION:
640 x 480
800 x 600

SHADOWS:
YES and NO  for all resolutions listed above

DECALS:

PARTICLES:
HIGH, LOW, and OFF  for all resolutions listed above

TEXTURE QUALITY:
HIGH, MEDIUM, and LOW  for all resolutions listed above

FRAMERATE:
30 FPS, VSYNC, and NO VSYNC  for all resolutions listed above

IN WINDOW MODE:

RESOLUTION:
640 x 480
800 x 600
960 x 600
1024 x 768

SPECULAR:
YES and NO  for all resolutions listed above

SHADOWS:
YES and NO  for all resolutions listed above

DECALS:

So you know on most games have vsync as no vsync because with it on your framerate drops massively.

Well, that one's easy: NEVER, EVER USE "no vsync" because 1) you'll get "video tearing" and 2) IT'S USELESS!

For ANY VIDEO GAME your framerate should ALWAYS == YOUR MONITOR'S REFRESH RATE. Anything more is just HEAT FROM YOUR GPU!

One more thing to try with your problem, DaNGeR, and it's "drastic:"  Place the "-useff" modifier (w/o the quote, and with a <space> separating it from everything else) at the end of the Target line in the Properties of the shortcut that you use to start Halo PC.

This COMPLETELY DISABLES ALL GRAPHICS ACCELERATION and makes everything look really drab, flat, and ugly, but if you still have the problem with this setting on, I'll be asking you for my key to The Twilight Zone back....

Hmmm, played around with your sound settings atall yet?
I ask because ive had issues periodically with Halo and Vent where as soon as i started up Halo, Vent sound quality would drop drastically (everyone's voice would sound majorly distorted).

Edit - Actually, sometimes it was the other way around, vent would be fine but i would get audio clipping from halo.

I'm not entirely sure how you can set it, but I've seen my VM shoot skyhigh, especially with Google Chrome. Ever played Evony? Your VM will be insane, trust me. v.v Halo typically gives me a VM of 98,000k. IMO anything over 110,000k for halo would be surprising. -nods-

Just wondering, but how did you manage to set your Initial equal to your maximum? I might finally be able to really utilize Chrome. v.v = )
Being a good racer in Halo isn't just about getting the best times. You have to know where your teammates and enemies are, and most of all... how to be crafty! XD -nods-

Oh... and "v.v" = sad face.

Props to Plixity for the first sig, Slayton for the Season XIII trophy sig, and Jane for the banner! Thx guys! ^.^
