On wireless and on my friend's Mac. On my more than half a decade old PC I'm sure my upload speed is much worse.

It seems that, this website is increasing peoples upload speed by x2 maybe more. I know my Download speed is truly 15 MB's and upload is 3.

Yeah I know for a fact mine doesn't exceed 20mb/s because my maximum is 18 shared between multiple houses in my neighborhood.  Yet, I got 21.something

SpeedTest LIES!

They use connection aggregation - essentially a bunch of simultaneous connections, which you'd only ever do yourself using torrents - so you get "ultra-best-case scenario" numbers.

Also, most ISPs use upload compression now, so that adds a "theoretical" zing to that number as well.

I legitimately get 6 MB/s (48 Mb/s) at University when doing a direct download from a site that can handle that speed ;p

So my 5 Mb/s is my ultra best but it's not likely that high? Ughhh.

That brings up some interesting discussions.... so, here's some example tests from a few different sites:

Speedtest.net:


Speakeasy.net:
Last Result:
Download Speed: 9664 kbps (1208 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 3434 kbps (429.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

dslreports.com:
Download Speed: 4386 kbps
Upload Speed: 2001 kbps


So, there you have it... a whole bunch of "who knows." 

When downloading from various sources, I often reach 1.6-2.0MB/second...

Now you see why I use DSLREPORTS.com's speed test??  It's the one that closest to reality!

...And most downloading is single-connection, so you're NOT getting even the full bandwidth of your line most of the time....
