Perseids meteor shower
« on: August 11, 2011, 03:57:05 PM »

Reminder for anyone, especially in the northern hemisphere, that the Perseid meteor shower is peaking over the next 24-48 hours.    Unfortunately the moon is near full, so you might be better off getting up before sunrise (yeah, right) to get the best view.   At the peak you can see 50-60 or more per hour I think.  Bad weather and clouds have almost always got in the way in my experience, but hopefully some of you may have better luck.

Thanks for the "head's up," Kiwi.  I was aware of the shower - and the fullness of the moon that night.

Ya, the timing didn't look "ideal" (or even "worth it"?), so I stayed sound asleep, thinking there wouldn't be much to see....

Next day I see a time-lapse image on the news of about a half-dozen streaks made by Perseid meteors. The image was made by a guy not 40 miles from me (here in the S.F. Bay Area!)

'Guess I should'a given it a go, at least....  ::)

There's always next year!
