Goodness I hate it when there's a dragon flying around above me and I'm shooting and shouting at it like crazy, then it just flies off!
Anyone got any helpful tips regarding attracting the attention of a dragon?
A couple of things:
- If the dragon is also
battling something else nearby - say a pair of trolls - it will be more focused on them than you, and when they're dead or the dragon gets bored it will leave. (I.e. The dragon never really cared about
you anyway!
) You can tell that this is happening because the dragon never hovers or lands really close to you or facing you for very long.
- Some seem to need to be back at their mountain peaks, it seems, and will break off attack and head up there if they get any chance (after being wounded.) It's likely that that dragon may be part of another quest - like one of the Dragon Priests. So until you've killed all of them and their dragons, you may run into that problem.
- Dragonrend is your friend! Get this shout ASAP! Once you've pinned a dragon down on the ground he's all yours! (Be sure to REPEAT the shout after every third or so attack you make on the downed dragon, too) Note: Hitting a dragon (with the shout) that is flying a fair distance away will not always ground them, but it WILL get their attention - if they can see/find you, so....
- DON'T HIDE FROM THEM! (until they've landed or start hovering, that is!) Get some place that's fairly open. (That will help you to dodge his attacks, too.) A large field with a few trees or rock outcroppings is perfect.
- Don't sneak! / No inviso'! - at least until you've got him locked in.
And one bit of advice for when you DO have him downed: Hide behind something! Move out and cast/shoot him and then duck back instantly and recharge/reload, then repeat.
GL!
Note: It seems that all dragons are males.... I wonder how they ever reproduced?!?!
