The only reason Windows 7 is any good at all is because you can turn on "Windows Classic" mode and get ... Windows XP.  Vista was a disaster, so ya, XP and assorted copies of Windows 7 will be all that we need from here on in for the life expectancy I give Windows-based "deskside" computers....
