Wierd Sound Problem... (Resolved)
« on: November 04, 2007, 03:15:07 AM »
Ok, so this morning i try and open up my iTunes as per usual and i get some random message...

So then i figure i should goto the sound settings (The little speaker on the task bar) and i get another message...

But i can hear other sounds like MSN, and finshed downloads...

I don't think i have changed my settngs recently for this to happen, infact it was working just last night, then i turned off. Then in the morning NOTHING had been changed (To my knoweldge) and i get this, any help is much appreciated.
Oh and don't wory i'm not using Vista is just a theme.

**EDIT**

This is what i got from Winamp...

So i'm guessing this is a driver isuue? Which i have no idea how to fix lol.  ;D

Do you know what sort of sound card you have?
If it's an integrated (AC'97) card, try installing drivers for your motherboard (but make sure you know exactly which one it is first), or going to the mobo manufacturer's website to find the sound drivers. To find out the type, you may have some sort of splash screen when you start the PC up (e.g. I have a green swirly pattern with "KN1 SLI Lite" when I start my PC up) or some documentation you had when you bought the computer.

Any other brand, just go to their website and download from there.

HTH.

I can see what think is the mother board but it has so many numbers in random places i dont know which are the important ones. Lol.
And no i dont have one of those funky screens.

Yes, that's probably about right. Now we're getting somewhere.

Now we need to work out which C-Media device it is. Seeing as it's AC97, I'd guess it's an onboard one. But there's 4 different ones listed here.
Is there any indication anywhere of which one it is? (The options I get on the C-Media website are CMI9880, CMI9761, CMI9739, CMI9738)
Possibly try DXDiag.

Ok. I've seen advice somewhere that to find the version, look at the card itself. Look at where you're plugging speaker leads into the computer, and work out if that's plugged into a PCI slot. If it is, look on the card for a label and there should be a number beginning with CMI. Same if it's onboard sound, but look for a small chip with a C-Media logo on it somewhere on the motherboard.

EDIT: I won't be back to help more for at least a couple of hours now, bear with me.

FYI for both of you: If you ever want to find out info about/get drivers for a specific device on your system - without doing any disassembly! - follow these instructions!
