Check that TTS is working in Windows.... BTW: this IS Windows XP, right? If it's Vista 1) my instructions may not be correct and 2) nothing I say may apply....  ::)

Start -> Control Panel -> Speech to bring up the Speech Properties window, then click on the Preview Voice button and see if that works.

Also, check that "Use the default output device" is selected within the Text to Speech Sound Output Settings window under the "Audio Output" button. (And that you've got "Use DirectSound Device" set in both Ventrilo settings....)

Colonel Walker: Have you done the above and confirmed that the text in red produces TTS voice sound?!?!

OK, I feel like an idiot asking this but I don't care...How do you create a custom enter/exit server/channel message? I still haven't found it, or maybe I'm just not looking hard enough. :embarrassed:

Nevermind :embarrassed:

Hello all.
I am having problems with my mics.  Yes, both of my mics are having problems.
The problems comes from the point I am "loud" at times, and there is always static in the background, or, I cannot be heard at all.

The static I can say is most likely from my laptop. With its drives spinning, it makes a constant whine, and this is most likely the problem.  The mics are picking this sound up and putting it through. (So much for a headset mic that filters background noise  :bang: :bang:)

If someone could help me here, I would appreciate it.
See you all late march

First off, check/do all the things in this earlier post in this thread to assure that you do NOT have "mic boost" set if you can record/hear sound through your mic that is at a good level without "mic boost" enabled.

Second: Make sure you're using version 3.0.4 of the correct ventrilo client.

This question was probably answered before but........

I have a headset mic....

I was trying to make the output sound come from my headphones instead of through my computer speakers because I can barely hear people when they talk.

Any help???

im using a headset too. You just plug in the speaker cable in as well, or if you've already done that then make sure that
1. it is in the correct socket and
2. it is in properly

;D by me ;D

Does your headset have its own volume control? I know of these green and pink plugs that you speak of (I have them as well, except the headset mic broke so I use my built in one), and my type of headset has a volume control about half way down the wire. If it's low or off that could be your issue.

Make use of Front Panel Audio ports:
Also
Rear-panel speaker port doesn't work:

If you have Front Panel audio plugs I suggest that you use them for a headset.

Why?

Because they sometimes have the feature where they'll MUTE THE REAR-PANEL OUTPUTS when you plug in to the front ports! (Note that sometimes the mute feature is there, sometimes it's not, and sometimes it settable.  It depends on the sound chipset and mobo manufacturer....)

That way you can keep your speakers set up and silence them when you go to play a game with your headset by simply plugging them in the front!

P.S. So if you CURRENTLY have your headset plugged in to the REAR panel ports and you plug something - like some other speakers - into your FRONT PANEL (headset) port... Well, you've just MUTED YOUR (rear-panel-connected) HEADSET!

I actually did that last night and it worked, I got sound into my headphones.

But, I also get the halo game sounds in my headphones as well....

Is there any way I can have the halo sounds come out of my computer speakers and have the vent come through my headphones only?

I know I could do that with Teamspeak but I am new to Vent and don't know if that feature is available.

Plus, I still get a muffled sound everyone says and my Outbound is set at -8.  I might just have to pick up a new headset.

You could do that Bob, although everyone on Vent would be able to hear what you're hearing in Halo though... :-\

How do you do that?

Not if I turn the halo up just a notch, it wouldnt interfere with vent.

When I have both sounds through my headphones, I canot hear anyone talk thats why I wanted to try it the other way.
