My dad playing a pipe organ in a large church
« on: December 11, 2007, 08:31:44 AM »
This was sunday night, I thought he pretty much rocked it out.  Some of this piece definately sounds like heavy metal.

He plays quite well!  (He didn't do the actual playing for Bela Lugosi's movies, did he??)

He seems to have a very nice blue glow, too!

I love to hear church (pipe) organs, band organs, carillons, and other huge instruments like them.

Thx!

Yeah, the "console" is up top in the back of the church where the pipes usually are too.  He has a pipe organ in the house so maybe I could capture him playing on that one!   But it was not so dark for the rest of the concert, there was an intermission and the lights were on, then they shut the lights off and he started playing.   I wish I had a better camera and I wish I read the program so I knew what was coming and when.

No Bela Lugosi for my dad, although we did go and see Phantom of the Opera once at a theater with a live organist for the movie soundtrack, I can't remember the name of it but its a famous theater thats a part of the University of Pennsylvania.

I love organs too, and especially accordions.  But my dad played the organ at the Vatican, and he played Carnegie Hall (he got the t-shirt for that one) and he played an organ from the Middle East that was more than 2000 years old at le Musee de L'orgue in Villeneuve Switzerland.

Factoid:  the largest organ in the world is the convention center in Atlantic City, next is the Wannamaker organ (now Macy's in Philadelphia) next is the organ at Longwood Gardens Kennett Square PA a former vacation house of the DuPont's.  I'd like to have a 4 acre greenhouse at my summer home too!!!  But the 3 biggest organs in the world are all in the Delaware Valley, whoda thunk???
