He went out to his car for something, realized he forgot which room was his, and honked the horn. A lot of lights turned on in rooms, except for his own - his wife is deaf.

A man was found dead in his library. His forehead was resting on the keys of his tape recorder; a pool of blood lay on the desk beside him.  From the door, the detective could see that the man's right hand covered the gun and that a bullet had entered his right temple.

The detective removed the tape recorder from under the man's head and pressed the play button.

A voice said, "I am not going to go on with a long winded farewell.  I'm tired of life and all its anguish.  I'll see you on the other side, wherever that maybe." 

There was a gunshot and the sound of his head hitting the tape recorder keys, followed by a click indicating the recorder had been shut off.

The detective was certain that someone else had imitaded the man's voice and made this recording to sound like a suicide.

Why does he suspect murder???

He couldn't shut off the recorder if he was dead, therefor, the man was murdered.

was it b/c if his head swicthed off the recording you wouldnt hear the thud of his head followed by a click, you might not even hear the thud at all?

Well that was what I thought too, but no that's not the answer unfortunately.  But yeah, good guess.

Did he fire the gun, and if he did, was he forced to?

Possibly, but the answer doesn't depend on it.  I believe you can get the answer to this one from the information in the story, without asking questions, and you'll probably know you got it once you figure it out.    Kinda like the one JANE guessed with the captain grabbing his coat off the hook.

 guessing here but was it because he heard the tape recorder shut off and dead people cant shut things off

No, that's pretty much what Bowser said.  His head could have hit the buttons and shut it off.  Possibly.

The detective did not rewind the tape at all, he just pressed play.  There is no way a dead man could have
rewound the tape himself.  The man who murdered him rewound the tape after he killed him.
