I've recently picked up an old game(s) I've had for a long time, and played a lot in the past, and now I'm playing it a lot now.
The game is roller coaster tycoon, and it is awesome, you build your own amusement park.
Just making a post to see if anyone else has/remembers/still plays the game, and anything cool/funny they remember/are doing with it.
At the moment, in Roller Coaster tycoon 2, I'm creating an awesome park, going against my Norm, scenery EVERYWHERE. I've already long beat the objective and am on Year 12 in the game, rides come slowly as I take a look back to theme rides, fill in holes where there's just plain nothingness, etc.
Here's a picture of my park thus far. It's only filling about 1/3 of the owned land in the park. I'm still having fun, so I'm still going with it. We'll see how much I fill up.

YES!!! love this game... it never gets old... until you unlock mega park.. but then its still fun
im glad im not the only one who plays this old but awesome game
-
I've played it and LOVE IT!!! Don't make me get out that old disc >_> (seriously, don't. I can't be bothered to find it :P). The only thing is that the disc we got from Ebay is corrupted. It plays normally, but you can't save your progress.. Which is EXTREMEL irritating.
Pynk Dude, that looks EPIC!!
Oh, and you know what's HILARIOUS? Trapping people. You see, people NEVER walk on grass. So what I do is build a square of land, look on the guest list to find people who are leaving the park, grab them and put them in the trap. 10 minutes later they are hungry, tired, thirsty and lost. So what do I do? Put up a toilet and charge them, put up the thingy which sells MAPS and umbrellas (yeah... the map won't save you mate XD), and put up a few food stools. It's sooo funny!
:haw:
-
I remember this game!! ;D
I had so much fun on this, i'll see if i can dig out my disc and take some screenies of some of my parks... i was mad for scenery and stuff.
I always had trouble with the "Build you Own Six Flags" one for some reason...
I have a load of really cool Twister Coasters as well where they race each other, and some massive Giga Coasters. All have an excitement above 9.00 and make literally 20,000 an hour :siderofl: :siderofl:
-
Can you actually ride the rides you make though? Looks awesome :) GJ! PynkDude!
P.S Which is the best? 1, 2 or 3?
-
No panther, you can't It's all about running the theme park.
P.S: No idea :P
-
You can ride them in 3...but overall gameplay in 3 is just...different then 1 and 2. I don't like 3.
I like 2 better, because you can actually theme rides well (you can't stack scenery in 1), and when scenery is in the way, it automatically destroys it when you build something, instead of having to right click each item in 1.
You can also make your own scenarios, you can save track designs, there's just more.
However, some things they made too complicated and expanded in 2. In RCT1, the "Boat hire" contained all the boats in one, Bumper boats, rowing boats, swans, etc. In rct2 however, they're all listed as different rides.
Both are awesome, but I find 2 overall more fun.
======================================
I've added a Space themed area, when I add more to the park overall, I'll probably post an update picture.
If anyone wants to see a specific area up close, feel free to ask.
-
Basically...
1-2: More freedom in the game play and less missions and stuff
3: Better graphics and you can ride the rides in a first person view, but the game play itself isn't as fun.
Btw Pynk you need to make a mega-coaster that runs above the whole park :P

3 Rollercoasters... £60,000 income per hour :)
I have another pair of "racer" coasters to be built next to them... bringing that corner up to nearly £100,000 an hour ;D
oh, and can i see what's inside that massive green structure on your map Pynk?
-
i have rct delux edition where its 3 in one. i also have RCT 3 its ok but not as good as the orgionals
-
oh, and can i see what's inside that massive green structure on your map Pynk?

I  RCT all the games, i have the first one, roller coaster tycoon 2: six flags edition, and roller coaster tycoon 3
they are all fantastic i love them all
Can you actually ride the rides you make though? Looks awesome :) GJ! PynkDude!
P.S Which is the best? 1, 2 or 3?
In roller coaster tycoon 3 you can, you can even drive around in a little buggy (atv type car thing) and run people over!
-
Nice coaster Pynk :)
here's one of mine (the info box is about the Hypercoaster on the right)
It's one of the highest rated Coasters i have built... i had a 9.8 excitement which i will try and find a screenie of :yesyes:
-
i have RTC deluxe i had a really good park going, it had 2 opposite sides for the park and to get to once side the people needed to take a train. unfortunally people started to complain because they were lost....
EDIT* how do u take a screen shot ingame? and where do u find it. i have RTC orgional corkscrew follies pack and loopy landscape pack
-
it's just under the Options icon (the floppy disc)
There's also a hot key for it in game, (ctrl+S)
here's an update.

On another note, does anyone know if there's a way to turn money off in a level? I thought you could it by converting a saved game into a scenario, but I can't. Anyone know a way to other then creating a completely new scenario from scratch.

You have to do it from scratch unfortunately... which is very annoying
And can i get a close up of that Splash Boats ride you have? looks awesome!!

it's my 13 minute long water ride Splash Mountain.

It holds the most ammount of people of any ride in the park, takes and longest to complete, has the most "Quest Favorites" at about 1200 people, second to the 650 of Atom, the sastifaction is 60%.
But everyone is really mad when they get off, everyone that rides it thinks "I want to get off of Splash Mountain" by the half way point, and that thought is my most common thought in the park, with "It's too crowded" and "Great Scenery" occasionally beating it.
As far as keeping quests happy in the game, it's a bad idea, but I was going for looks/realism, so I decided to just do it anyways.
-
For good or bad... that's a nice ride :)
I can't seem to break the 10 barrier for excitement on any of my coasters lol have you managed to do it?
-
I don't think so on roller coasters, the best I tend to get normally is around 9.3-9.5
It's tough, because the ride needs to be long enough to build excitement, as well as scenic, however, the longer you get, the harder it is to keep the intensity under control, and if you get too intense, it actually has a negative effect on excitement.
Meh, I'm happy with Very High, Very high, High/mediums.

Must... resist... urge to re-buy game because old version doesn't work properly....

WOW!!!! I can imagine that was quite expensive...
The 1st and 2nd Degree Twisters are about £50,000 each... the good thing is they make £20,000 an hour each ;D
In my "mega parks" i manage to have about 5, maybe 6 coasters making nearly £20,000 an hour each
And twin lane coasters are sooo much fun to make aren't they?!?!?!?!?
Must... resist... urge to re-buy game because old version doesn't work properly....
Buy it Tanxs!!!!
-
long time ago i had what seem like a 30 min coaster that was actually 20 mins lol
-
Oh, I will Ajax :).
2 problems with my current disc:
1) Lost
2) I probably bought an illegal copy from an Ebay seller *raises fist angrily* because the disc itself is just white, with no pictures and because everytime I try to save my progress, the whole thing freezes. Either that or they sold me a faulty one. :'(

And then once you re-buy it you can send it to me in Australia :)

My only regret with Pyramid racer is I made it one track, sort of expecting to be able to use 4 trains. Didn't work out and it's only 2.
I'll probably end up going into the roller coaster editor and making it two tracks instead, so more people can ride it. I just hope that doesn't ruin is excitement rating.
-
Update View of my park.
As you can see, the giant green building is gone, but the ride inside remains. I like it better opened. I've filled in the top right of my park, I plan to keep the dessert area as barren as it is (mainly filled by the dueling giga coaster.
Not sure what'll happen to the top left, probably a feater Floorless, or Inverted Suspended coaster.
Speaking of the giga coaster, I did end up splitting up the tracks, and I maintained great, even better actually, ratings (10.35, and 10.46 excitements for them), so it worked great in the end. I'm so happy with my work around this part that I made this my Desktop background :P
(http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv342/Sir_Izenhime/SCR18.jpg)
I've noticed that as my park expands, my ratting drops. Looking at the thoughts,
the only thing I can think of that guests have a problem with are bathrooms....but I've got 45 already, it already seems like everywhere you look there's a bathroom. about 120 people at a given time say "I need to go to the bathroom"
Hunger and thirst are also up there, but when you consider I have 6000 guests, only 60-70 people saying "I'm hungry/thirsty", doesn't seem like an issue, and just people randomly stating it, and possibly on their way to get food.
Crowded only becomes a problem when a new big ride is built, and everyone is rushing towards it, but I never hear word of it otherwise.
I never get red messages for any of these, so the game obviously doesn't find it a problem.
I periodiclly check the thoughts for litter, disgusting paths and vandalism. I NEVER get any messages of guests being lost (which does surprise me :P)
Any ideas? Do I just need to build more random bathrooms and stalls?

MOAR PEOPLE IN PANDA COSTUMES
NAO!
-
I have that same problem with the park rating... and i really don't know lol
I play custom maps a lot, so by default i make them very easy to get from A to B. Like you said, you have about 50 toilets and i usually also have near 60 handymen, especially around my coasters (for obvious reasons)
And good one making the Pyramid coaster into a dual :) they work so much better than one coaster with multiple trains. (if you had used blocked sections you probably could have had up to eight trains then it would work better)
I also find guests will think "i need the toilet" when they are right next to one... or even while they are standing in one... which is strange...
I'd say make sure you have a large volume of staff... in one of my parks i have 120 staff members (60 handymen, 40 mechanics, and 20 security dudes) and i keep floating around making sure everything is well and good.
What i do is have food/drink stalls in groups of 3 or 4 scattered around the park (at least two on my screen at any time when i'm zoomed right in), i still get the "i'm hungry/thirsty" thoughts but they are never too far from a stall
MOAR PEOPLE IN PANDA COSTUMES
That helps too!!! :P

Here is a question in roller coaster tycoon. how can you make the mechanics in the game actually go to the coaster i tend to have mechanics that go all around the park and still cant find the ride when they passed it a few times.
-
I've ordered 2 copies. One for me, and one for Panther!
Just kidding  But I am getting my own ;3
-
well, I finished off my park with another big coaster, and I think I'm done.

I just make sure i have lots of mechanics, there's normally one near a ride any time it breaks down. Make ride exits easy to get to and try not to have dead ends... sometimes i have to create "staff only" paths from one place to another due to mechanics being a bit "odd"
and Pynk... thats a nice looking park :)
-
try to keep your pathway easy to navigate, try to follow a square-like pattern. It not only keeps your quests from getting lost, it also makes it easier for staff to get around.
Also, if you have any buildings, make sure there's easy ways to get out of them. During my time playing the park I just finished, many times mechanics would be in buildings and not find their way out, so I'd have make another path.
Other then that, just more mechanics will help.
-
fair enough. i dont have many buildings for people to go into and have tones of paths so guest dont get lost and usually put the exits by the entrances.

LIEZ!
And I haz a question.
Is there any way I could just start a park from scratch and build it up myself with no objectives? There seems to be only objectives available. All I want is a park that hasn't got a river or trees to build on without something telling me I failed :P.

If you have RCT2 then you can create your own map... make it like, 150 "squares" each side, own all the land, whack in an entrance and then you can set your own objective to be completed by year 50 (i think you can go that far) so you don't have to worry about it
-
if u have RCT 3 there is a sandbox mode.
-
I have RCT2. How would I do that Ajax?
-
on the main page, the right most icon is a tool box, click the make scenario
Just set it so all the rides/scenery are there, make the map as big as you can, and put what ever you want in it. Then, when you get to the objective section, turn money off, and set it to a ridiculously easy objective, so you don't have to worry about it.
Another similar already in the game thing is the roller coaster editor under the tool box, there's no money, and it's just a big flat map where you build unthemed roller coasters and watch them go.

Exactly what Pynk said :)
If you want we could get on vent and i can give you a hand, i have some fun maps i have made with objectives that take literally 20 years to complete

Sure Ajax :D.
Thnx Pynk.
Is 20 years a long time? Gosh I haven't played this game in years and I forgotten everything :P.
-
I can't remember how long a year lasts... lol
I think it is near enough one hour... don't quote me on that though. It seems to be a reasonable amount of time, considering that then it would take 2-3 hours per scenario
-
Thnx Pynk, I did it and it was exactly what I wanted :).
Btw, I set the settings to people prefer more intense rides. I made my own rollercoaster, and guess what? Intensity rating: 18.00 (Ultra-Extreme). NOBODY would go on it. :'(
-

Smooth :)
I really wanted people to use it D:. But everyone was thinking "It's too intense for me". Even tho they like 9+ intensity...
Anyway, no1 was going on it and it was a waste. So I did what everybody else would do: I deleted a bit of the track and watched it crash :).
-
Just cos it says 9+ doesn't mean 18 :P
-
Wow 18? My highest is around 11, and no one would go on that either... im guessing it had to do with the many helix that I put in? Also, in the Rollercoaster Desgin thing, can you not save the tracks you made? I did it with my 11 in a begginer sceaniro, but its like there no save button in the desgin thing? Its it possibale or no? :AOL:
Also just got it...
P.S.: Not sure if its a glitch, but I was testing out a custom track and i didnt realise there was a gap in the tracks... but to my suprise, the train LANDED ON THE OTHER SIDE! Was amazing. :yesyes:
-
Just cos it says 9+ doesn't mean 18 :P
18 is not over 9. Got it.
:P
-
if a ride has Ultra-Extreme intensity, no one will go on it...period.
Same goes for Nausea.
A few people will go on Extreme, but not many.
You're looking for ratings like Very High, and high.
Maybe medium if you're looking for a 'kiddy' coaster.
An Ideal rating that would get the most people on it is an intensity between 5 and 7. Obviously you'll still want to go for big coasters though, because they're just too fun to pass up.
There's no limit to excitement, that can be ultra-extreme or very high, and people will still go on it.
-

You should be able to save it. After the ride has tested and the ratings are available, you should be able to save track designs.
-

in RCT 3 i designed a coaster so tall and the drops so steep that i did not really have to put any other hills only to slow it down. unfortunately it derailed at the first turn :P

Nice :)
In all of my parks, i play with money enabled (and a 500,000 loan) and (with what Pynk said about big coasters) my biggest ones have excitement 9+, intensity between 7 and 9, and nausea between 5 and 7 depending on the rollercoaster type. Then you can charge up to the excitement rating of the ride, eg, excitement 8.44 can be charged at 8.50

Another pair of racing coasters made in the designer.
Both have similar stats, and (this one for you Tanxs) people will ride them if they are in a park :siderofl:
-
:P
You made that yourself? That's awesome!
This may sound silly, but my main problem with building rollercoasters is getting the track to end at the station. I sometimes find it hard to. =/
-
When making a coaster, always have a vague idea of how you're going to end, and keep it in mind when making your coaster. You don't want to make so much track around the end of the station to the point that you make it impossible to end.
An easy way to do this is to make a little bit of track coming out the back of the station first, before you start out the front, so you always have the visual there of where you're going to end.
-
Most of the coasters i make are "racers" and the endings are pretty much the same so it's not really a hassle. Putting a few track pieces in always helps... and remember to use brakes so the ride won't crash!! I've had so many coasters ruined because of that...
It took nearly and hour to make that pair, mainly due to the fact they twist and turn a lot underground, and that one of the tracks wouldn't make it around the last inversion (hence the launched lift hill on the way up) which took about a minute to test each time, and then another three to make the necessary changes so the track would work

I raise you on the highest Coaster Excitement Rating Pynk :)
It had a rating of 9.5 before scenery...
-
:jawdrop: Very nice!
-
And somehow the excitement of N3V3R has increased to 10.65 :o
and i just added up the profit made by all 15 coasters in my park... and it comes to (duh, duh, duuuhh) £162,000 an hour
:o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
