I'm not sure I like where this is going.

For one, it isn't Bungie's thing anymore, purely 343 Industries and Microsoft now.

Seems to me like the whole franchise is starting to sell-out...

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary I will most definately be buying though.

Wikilinks goddiness...

EDIT:

Heres supposedly some early screenshots. Probably all conjecture still at this point, but still. Halo: CE Anniversary looks promising.

How is it a sell-out?  Imo Halo should have went straight to 4, and Reach and ODST shouldn't have even been done.  Plus, how can you hate on 343 Industries?  They've been with Bungie and the Halo franchise since the beginning.  They will do just fine.

I agree with you on ODST but they had to make reach to finish the story, they mentioned in halo 2 "The fleet that attacked REACH was 10 times the size as this" they needed it

however ODST had imo no point, loved the game, but it didn't tie into the main halo 1 storyline

Don't get me wrong. This won't stop me from eating this up like a starved puppy...

Its just, the series, to me at least, feels like it should have ended at the end of Halo 3. The war with the Covenant was over, everybody mourned the loss of the Master Chief, everybody moved on. Now we get a spin-off that has nothing to do with that epic storyline.

Just seems to me like it's more about the money than the fans. Like, "Oh, lets just throw a few bits together here and slap the title 'Halo 4' on it, the people will eat it up."

And, as I mentioned before, the Halo franchise no longer belongs to Bungie, so it just won't be the same.

Just my 2c

They've planned for years to make another trilogy. It's not something they only recently decided to do. It's been the plan since before Halo 3 even came out. Remaking Halo 1, though, is selling out and completely unnecessary. Plus they're only doing 7 maps, which is silly, and Halo 1 is best for the PC with a poor setup that results in leads. Halo is as good as it is because of design flaws.

Also, he wasn't in cryo either at the end. There's no reason to assume that this is immediately following the events of Halo 3's ending. There most likely was some amount of time period between it. Plus it's just a trailer and nothing more than that in any case, so these details don't matter really.

Just to show off my nerdiness, the Human/Covenant war "officially" ended in 2552, in one of the Halo Legends episodes (Origins, pts I and II) Cortana and the Chief are still trapped inside Forward Unto Dawn in 2556, sometime after this episode they are shown drifting towards the so called "Legendary Planet" seem after Halo 3, and in the Halo 4 trailer. So yeah, MC  and Cortana were stranded for four years before this trailer.

Ironically, its been nearly four (well, five, once they release the game) years since Halo 3 was released.

looks fun though.

It wasn't actually a jet pack but more like thrusters for zero-G travel.

And 343 said the trailer was non-canon and just for looks. Nothing in it is final.

I for one am looking forward to what 343 can do. It DOES have some ex-Bungie members in it so only time can tell....

From what I see, it's less of a sell out and more of a practice run to get used to being the head-honchos before they take on Halo 4.

Yup. Those suits according to the novels anyways, were designed for combat in any environment and have a host of features to aid in it, self polarizing visors, armor plating that absorbs and deflects energy, strength and speed that the game can't reflect accurately...

Novels > Games

well after reading all that, i think my head has spun about 100 times and is still spinning and as for my piece. I cant wait in fact im almost mad they released it so early now i have to be depressed for more than a year .... but yes the legendary ending of halo 3 made obvious hints towards halo 4 so i dont know why its a "sell out" to make another sequel. I mean i think we'll find out once its released if it is a sell out or not but i definetly (as many others) have my hopes up for this game

It seems that the recent book combined with the fact that "Master Chief returns to confront his own destiny and face an ancient evil that threatens the fate of the entire universe," my best guess as to the starting enemy will relate to the Precursors, the race that actually was around prior to and during the Forerunners. However, if it comes out that year too, I will be looking much more forward to Assassin's Creed III than anything Halo :P
Title: Re: Halo 4 (Yes, for real and don't get me started)
Post by: Ledgo on July 02, 2011, 06:09:27 AM
I'm wondering what they're up to. I have a feeling it's going to be something along the lines of Flood/Forerunner enemies, since the Flood was never eliminated yet.

I actually didn't mind ODST, I just hated the fact that Firefight never had any real match making. I rented Reach for a week and never touched it again-It's the only Halo game I've honestly been disappointed with. Though to be honest, I haven't touched any Halo game in a very long time.

EDIT:And yes, I agree Edison. The new Assassin's Creed will probably be on my list of games. I still haven't even played any of them through, only watch my brother do so. They look really good, but the contextual button system grinds the crap out of my nerves.

See now, in my personal opinion i dont think Halo 4 is going to be as good...

due to the fact that its 343 industries.. not Bungie..
Bungie are the don when it comes to halo.. 343 industries helped create halo 1 for the pc.. and thats all..
soo im a bit iffy.. but we'll see they release Halo Anniversary in November which is Halo 1 re-made.. if thats good then i'll have a look..

If they ruin halo 1.. im becoming a hit man and 343 industries will be the first on my list xD

343i admitted that the trailer was just for looks, and none of it is actual gameplay. So no explosive pistol for Bulky.

The Boltshot is about the most useless weapon ever on Legendary.

Other than that I liked it alot. I liked the interaction between Cortana and Chief alot. (The ending pulled at the heartstrings)

I also liked how it tied in the books more than the others. (Halo: Glasslands and Halo: Thursday War)

Its a good play for those who don't follow the history religiously like some, but for those who do, it makes the gameplay even more jucier. When the Didact appeared my expression was the combination of these two smilies.     :liljawdrop:

The Boltshot is about the most useless weapon ever on Legendary.
Covenant carbide is equally useless against Knights on legendary... emptied three mags into one and all I did was make it mad...

Light weapons(outside of bolt shot) are generally OP(overpowered) and quite effective on any difficulty... scattershot is WAY overpowered... I died at mid range from a scattershot and just stood there jaw hanging open... think Halo 1 shotty...

The covenant are a joke in this game, more of an annoyance than an actual threat... died more to knights than anything on legendary.

RAILGUN IS USELESS! SLOW charge up, zooms out on initial charge, and it's like the Sniper rifle... so they have to be standing still or it's pointless... also slow reload and still takes two hits to kill knights.. same as the sniper rifle(s)....

Rocket launcher useless... outside of stationary targets.

Spartans are useful in this game, granted they don't all have pistols....just what 343.... marines don't live very long on legendary as always....

Tank level on legendary is absurdly annoying at the start...

Haven't touched multiplayer, working on legendary with my fiance.

LOL the easter eggs in this game are phenominal!

In Sparton Ops Season 2, Ep 5 if you find the hidden egg you get some unique commentary in place of the standard marine chatter... so...

"Oh buttons..."
"Caboose DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING"
"But I'm good with buttons..."
"Caboose WHAT did you DO?"
"Ooooh explosions..."

"See, now you broke it."
"I didn't break it, the fire did..."
"...and now I'm on fire too..."

"So what do you think it does?"
"How should I know? It's a 40 foot monolith with a single giant holographic button... it could be anything from someone's microwave oven to..."
-screams-
"Is that Caboose?"
"I'M ON FIIIIIIIIAAAAAHHHHH!!!!"
"Probably... he IS on fire...."
"THE ARMOR, IT DOES NOTHIIIIIIIIIING!!!!"

Oh my god it is 10x times funnier hearing this along with the serious and caring sound of the spartan commander over the coms... I was in tears laughing the first time I heard it all....

I played so much Ragnarok ... It's not that great with Halo 4 ... I really like playing Big Team Battle, but every other map is Ragnarok. I've had 4 games in a row this morning that were on Rag.

My most used loadouts right now are:
DMR and Assault Rifle (Fire Power gives you two primary weapons) with Active Camouflage. Good for defense. You have long range with the DMR and good close quarters with the Assault Rifle.

Assault Rifle with infinite sprint for rushing.

Battle Rifle with infinite sprint for mid range Big Team Battles.

My loadouts are normally BR, AR, Plasma,Bot/Camo, Explosives. DMR depending on the map.

343 Industries really caught the ball on this one. Campaign was excellent, Spartan Ops and War Games are both very entertaining. 8/10 from me. It would be higher, except I was slightly disappointed with Forge (I'm an avid forger, and created 100s of maps in Reach). There are three dedicated Forge maps, but I still feel let down by the lack of size and freedom that I was looking forward too, and that I experienced in Forge World in Halo reach. Some points (good/neutral and bad);

Halo 4 really showed Xbox 360's relatively primitive processing capability with Forge. Placing objects and then re-entering Spartan mode takes time, a few seconds to load the lighting and shadow of the object(s).

There is still a limit to the amount of a type of object you can place (100 blocks, 100 walls, 100 decorations, etc).

Momentum is not conserved when entering Spartan mode when moving fast in Forge Mode.

There are no UNSC air vehicles at all (in Forge), the only flying vehicle being the banshee. I do not understand the reasoning behind this.

Mass-deletion of objects is much easier.

With all that said, I am still having fun creating new maps with the variety of forge maps available. It will still offer great customisability, but a few little things could make it a lot better IMO.

I didn't expect much out of Halo 4 but I was absolutely impressed. The campaign was really well done this time around, and it was great to see the chief back in action. The cutscenes are also fantastic, and it sometimes becomes difficult to see the difference between what's real and what's not.

The game combines elements from previous Halos, and morphs them with a few Call of Duty aspects, and manages to make them work, maybe even better than the original. Multiplayer is a blast with a ton of different game modes and ways to play.

The only complaints are what were not included. Vehicles like the Falcon or Hornet would have been nice. How about some brutes thrown in? Engineers? Drones? Whatever happened to the Arbiter and why was there no appearance or even reference to him or the alliance with the elites?

Also what about Firefight. Firefight in ODST was a blast and I have some great memories of how difficult some of those achievements are. It was great fun. And Reach added tons of customization. I don't see why it wasn't kept this time around. I would have kept Firefight over the current Spartan Ops, which feel rather redundant.

Yes there are some negatives, but the game is fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone.

Played the campaign and was impressed with the sound, some of the visuals and the cutscenes. For whatever reason I'm left slightly underwhelmed. Perhaps I was just expecting it to be brilliant and wasn't let down. Anyway I'm looking forward to Halo's 5 and 6. Maybe they'll plug a few story gaps, e.g. where are the Arbiter and the "good" Elites. Possibly I was also distracted by the fact that it's seriously difficult trying to beat those darned Promethean Knights on Legendary difficulty -- especially the ones armed with Binary Rifles or whatever they are called. So distracting, dying every other second, when you're trying also to appreciate the game.

Major problem. My rank has been capped at SR70 (level 70). This is after three weeks of playing. I've only played through two specialisations and can not earn any more XP. I've researched into this and it appears to be 343's decision to cap players that did not receive special promotional codes at SR70. How disappointing.

EDIT: It appears that 343 are frantically trying to send everyone the codes. Whether or not they realised their error in judgement is unknown. Hoping I get mine soon.

The only complaints are what were not included. Vehicles like the Falcon or Hornet would have been nice. How about some brutes thrown in? Engineers? Drones? Whatever happened to the Arbiter and why was there no appearance or even reference to him or the alliance with the elites?

No Falcon? No Hornet? Probably a consequence of the fact that most of your vehicles early on are salvage, so it would be hard to find one. Later on, when you get more vehicles, they thought they'd let you fly a pelican instead. Are you really gonna complain about that?

No Brutes? No Drones? No Engineers? That's because you're fighting a breakaway Covenant group. Presumably, no Brutes/Drones/Engineers joined it.

No Arbiter? It's very possible he'll pop up in later games in the trilogy. Please enlighten me how they could have worked the Arbiter in without some immense changes to the Halo 4 plot.

No reference to the alliance with the Elites? Er...yes, there was. In a semi-cutscene in the first level, the Chief remarks "I thought we had a truce with the Covenant." Cortana replies that "A lot can change in four years---these Covenant aren't outfitted like standard military. It's possible we've just stumbled upon a rogue salvage ship."

My only complaint was that the campaign wasn't nearly long enough. I kinda wanted something that would take me about a month to complete.
