Looking for a good action/rpg game
« on: December 15, 2012, 07:54:43 PM »
Hey, lately I have been looking for some new games to play but I'm getting mixed reviews about some.
Games I am looking for are open world action rpgs like the elder scrolls.
I am also looking for any choice and consequence rpgs where as the name says, you make a decision and you bear the consequences of the action.

Any recommendations is helpful :)

What have you played?   Assassin's Creed, Fallout, Skyrim, Mass Effect?

Good point, Kiwi. This way we dont suggest games you've already played. :P

What platform? PC? Xbox/PS3?

I can recommend the Witcher games if you are over 17. They are on the extreme end of Mature for both story and content, however the are exceptionally done.

Think Game of Thrones, with nasty monsters.

ok, played the first witcher and going to get the second eventually,
played elder scrolls 3-5 and some assassins creed games,
Ive played DA:O and the fable series.
Played KotOR and half way through KotOR 2,
And I would prefer PC if my computer can run it, otherwise 360.

Apart from the games listed and the mass effect series (going to pick them up pretty soon), I dont know of any other choice and effect games and so Im looking for suggestions.
Open world games, again most listed above, so any suggestions not covered would be helpful

I received a free copy of Witcher 2 from CD Project Red to reveiw on the Xbox (and bought a PC version as well, of course). If you like strategic RPG combat that is both action packed with lots of real time challenges and also requires you to plan how you approach each encounter, it will be amazing. If you are looking for a quick beat 'em up, well, the AI will beat you up mercilessly.

If you've played through Dragon Age: Origins and Knights of the Old Republic and like them... I would recommend any other Bioware game. I've played Dragon Age: Ultimate Edition, Dragon Age II, Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire and Mass Effect 1 & 2, and I liked them all. They're some of my favorite games.

Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.

There's the Gothic and Risen series. I haven't played Risen yet though.

I enjoyed the role playing, choice elements, alternate endings in the FPS games Bioshock 1 & 2 and Metro 2033.

Here are some (to my understanding) choice and consequence games I haven't played but I've been meaning to look up or buy:

Vampire - The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Alpha Protocol
Drakensang
Baldur's Gate
Neverwinter Nights
Two Worlds
Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning

I just remembered The Walking Dead and as Gryphon mentioned - if he was referring to the game - Game Of Thrones. I have virtually no clue what they're like or about though - or what the relevance to the TV series is. But I think they fall into the category of what you're looking for.

Watched Walking Dead , the videogame on youtube and it certainly is an RPG where every action has a consequence and changes the story . As for Two Worlds that Elkric recommended , it doesn't have the choice and consequence element in it , was a good game nonetheless but not what you're looking for .
Fall Out games would be a solid option as well as the Mass Effect series .

I remembered two other action RPG games, but I'm not certain they have the choice element. Anyhow, they're called Of Orcs And Men and Dark Souls: Prepare To Die. There is also another RPG franchise I haven't played but heard of, called Divinity (Divine Divinity, Beyond Divinity, Divinity II). Again, I'm not sure if all or any of them actually has moral choices.

I think I played the first game a long time ago. I'd forgotten the name though, and I didn't realize they were RPGs. Thank you, I might buy the collection.

Thanks, I wasn't aware.

Say... did you ever find a game fitting to what you were looking for, Xtr3me? I've been looking for similar games myself (ever since I played Dragon Age: Origins).
