How to recognise a Real/Fake BFM Server.
« on: February 02, 2008, 02:28:12 AM »
There are a few differences between fake BFM servers and Real BFM servers, in this thread I shall point out some differences to help you spot them.
You can always check them on our website, on the right hand side, a Green dot means the server is up a red dot means it isn't.

Click here for a current server IP list.

IP's of the server your in can be found by holding F1 to bring up the score, the IP is in the bottom right hand corner.

NOTE: The servers do occasionally change IP, depending if we change hosting company or the servers location changes. You can always check this at our Home Page

Title.
Our racing servers all have the name BFMracing.net #?
Our KOS server has the name BFM King/Oddball/Slayer
We have a British server - BFMracing.net #6 (UK)
We have a LA server - BFMracing.net #2 (LA)
We have a CTF server - BFMracing.net CTF ~No Swearing~

Our servers are 12 slot servers, meaning only 12 people can play in them at one time, this is normally a key difference between a real BFM server and a fake. The Rocket Server only holds 8 people.

When you click on the server in GameSpy lobby, along the bottom, the scrolling list of server information, It will have before the setup information "TeamRaceReg" for our racing servers. This is also something to note before entering. All of BFM's servers are also dedicated servers, and will display the relevant icon.

I shall keep this thread updated when possible, please post with any other thing to differ them and i shall add to the list.
If a Mod could sticky this it would be nice  :cop:

I suggest that you reference the BFM website server IP list (right-side nav bar, top) and not duplicate your work - and chances of being out of sync - here.

Having one source for such info will make it THE source for that info....

Mxy out!

Added a link a more info on it. I double-checked them and will update them as the website IP list does, or announcements are made about it.

Um, ya... that's why you'd put a reference (link to it) HERE!

DEFINITION: Hyperlink: a copy... without making a copy!

another thing to note at least for the race servers is that the "game" is called TeamRaceReg (the thingy that scrolls across the lobby)

There no need to worry about this going out of date Mr Mxy.

I have a thread a lot like this in the BFM section and keep it updated with many ways. The BFM Home page, BFM halo server guery webpage, and not a big one but i also use xfire favourites.

Usually when a new server comes into play an officer just gives it a little moddify and change or adds the server.

I see Igor a lot on vent so anything new will be updated within the 24 hours of change

Nice work.

Really dont wish to put your work down matey but i do wonder if making any issue out of such a minor problem by stickying a thread on how to "combat" it in the public forum is a good idea in that it may attract more attention from the people who do it. Your personal BFM-perplexed  "griefers" (bullies) in this case do lurk around the forums, awaiting your response over what they do which will then determine what they do next. That being them reading up this thread and correcting their servers with an easy tutorial you are laying out and updating.

As i personally think the best way to avoid these servers is common sense and simply reading the server info first. Such mistakes are rare and explained upon query (or sophisticated kicking and screaming as it frequently goes lol) anyhow. And if they aint queried or cried, then they aint too bothered about the clan nor what server they joined anyway.

Tis all very nice and colourful though!

Thank you for your concern Railziel, there a good argument here now and i love arguing.

the reason igor got this started is to give out a brief warning to our guest and an easy copy and paste ip list. Maybe a few people who do this fake server stuff will learn and change their fake server. but i think in the long run that having this here is for the better of our guests and their safety in our server.

Thanks for the advice ill talk to igor about it

See you on the track
