It's different here in America.  12th Grade is usually the time most students slack off because they've already decided what they're gonna do after that, whether it is college or not.

I thought I heard of some standardized exams over in Australia in year 12, but I could be wrong.  If that's the case, then study hard.

ye thats the case for Australia,
every other year means absolutely nothing towards our ATARSCORE (our final mark after year 12, highest atar is 99.95) unless you have done a year 12 or university subject in those years,
when we do our mid year and end of year exams,
we are scaled against the rest of the country so there could be only a couple of marks on an exam which switches your grade from a D+ to a B,
and since exams count for 50 or 66.66% of our grades, they are pretty important.

hope this helps turbo, and if you ask your teachers about it, they can explain it all to you

edit: btw, English is the most important subject that counts towards your ATAR since every person undertaking Year 12 has to do an English subject (im not sure about other states but this is the case for Victoria)

It's a better system in my opinion since it puts more focus on who you are as opposed to who you were when Universities decide on applications. What aspects of it are you worried about in particular?

since your doing 2 maths subjects and physics,
if you are good in those subjects, you should be fine,
but like i said, your teachers will be able to give you more info about it

I regret slacking off in year 12. I still got into Uni for the course I wanted, but if I had've got a slightly higher ATAR score I could have gone to the best Uni in the state. Instead I have to go to the second best.

Well, Turbo, it depends on how organised you are, how good you are at studying for long periods of time, and how motivated you are. Your marks from year 11 don't matter at all  :yesyes:. If you aren't organised yet, there's probably still time .

Maths, physics and IPT, from memory, are mostly content based (I could be wrong about physics, since I only did it for a day, then dropped it in favour of IPT, which I later dropped anyway), so those shouldn't be too hard to study for (I liked old-fashioned writing lines, and repetitive practise).

I have no idea about graphics.

I struggled most with English. If you can do maybe (at this stage), at least 3 practice essays a week, (by my standards) you're doing great (I was doing more than that in a day in the lead up to the exams), learn your content, get to know your texts to a depth so deep you die from the pressure (not really that deep, I just couldn't resist it, it's such a great sentence!).

And of course, you can't go past doing previous exam papers! You can find old HSC papers on the NSW Board of Studies website (I expect there's an equivalent for Victoria), and if you also have Trial exams, then see if you can get previous trial papers from your teachers.

Good luck :)
Oh, and in answer to your question, yes and no.

I'm pretty sure NZ and Australia have similar education standards;

Year 12 was a big leap from Year 11. I'm doing Year 13 this year, and apparently it's not as big of a leap, but I'm not going to take it for granted like I did with Year 12, even if it means repeating a Year 12 course subject.

Yes, depends on what you would want to do.  I'm still at school, but watched my older two siblings go through it.  (one got 97.45).  Still got a year left, but did enhanced bio.  I reckon its not the teachers or the school as much, but the more you put in = more you get out.  Try your hardest, as it could affect the rest of your life.. Well my opinion anyways.

Sooo....your a senior....what's your Senior prank?

well initially we were thinking of turning a teachers car around so he couldent drive it out of the school
not just any teacher but a really old one that is retireing at the end of the year

but that has sort of backfired cos the scool has brought out rules about touching teachers cars so i doubt that i going to happen

I think for our senior prank the kids turned up at lessons and pretended to actually care what the teachers were saying. It caught them completely off guard.

My 12th year was my hardest, I had three different maths I had to take all the same year, plus us socials was ridiculously difficult(kinda like history), and english just made me want to strangle someone.

I got to college and it was easy... which made me just go "What...."

Our seniors this past year parked their cars in a maze pattern so everyone had to go through the maze right  to get out.
