Title: why my ping goes up to 1000?? pls help

i have being playing halo a long time and my ping use to be at 100-200 and now im having  this problem with my ping....

Your ping accounts to information you send/recieve over the internet. Usually, your ping is ok if Halo is the only internet app you are using.

Now, there are a number of things that can cause your ping to shoot up while playing Halo. First, it could be totally out of your reach, as your high ping can be caused by another player with an abnormally high ping, and is a result of communicating with them. The main cause, however, is having other internet applications open while playing Halo. For example, having a file sharing program open while playing halo will cause your ping to shoot through the roof. Off of the BFM servers, I like to josh players that have pings around 1000 by saying "Hey ________, quit downloading (uh, you know) while playing Halo!"

Another cause could be your internet itself. If you have a slow dial-up or out of date modem that can't keep up with the fast broadband motems of today, your ping will also be really high. And the only way to fix that is by upgrading your internet.

Those are the two most common causes of high ping, so try them.

nop my internet is real good and when i open halo i make sure thers nothing els open....
and this problem is not every time i open halo.... :chief:

Is your router secured so no neighbors can be stealing bandwidth?  Are you in a populated area where there would be a lot of wireless traffic?

You could try shutting down any other devices (computers or printers) connected to the router and see if it performs ok.

Wireless gets lag spikes like that.  If possible, get a cable and direct connect to the router when you're gaming.

Kiwi brings up a point that I forgot about. I had to secure my internet connection because I used to have issues with neighbors freeloading internet off of my wireless router, and that would cause my ping to get really high for no reason on ocassion.

lol... my conection is secure with this code internet company  gave me.. so i think thats not the problem.. how i said this problem is not everytime i open halo... so i guees i will just leav it like that.. i will reinstall windows later on to see if thers a problem with it ....

"Secure" wireless connection doesn't matter...

If you're using a wireless network connection "ALL BETS ARE OFF!"  (I.e. Your mileage WILL vary, and wildly/widely, too!)
