In-Game Chat Text Color
« on: August 06, 2007, 03:38:15 PM »
I've seen many screenshots taken during gameplay where the in-game chat text is a different color. I'm not sure if this is a Mac thing, but the default (?) white color makes it hard to read in Icefields and Swidewinder. Is is possible to choose another color without modding?

Never seen this question before... Lol ;D
Here, let me find a nice little application for you.....
Modify: Okay, I found it. All credit goes to Xhzjang for making it. I would not advise moving around the text location, because it is in just about the best spot that it can be in right now. Anyway, here's the link:
>>Xhzjangs Halo Font Editor<<
Just unzip that file, and run the program.

Just so you know, there is some other really long complicated way of doing it, but, I'm lazy, and like to take the easy way out :yesyes:  (!

Any questions, just ask.

I have an answer!!  It's a little complicated, so just bear with me, ok?  First open My Computer.  From there open Local Disk Drives, or the C: drive.  Now open the Program Files folder and open the Microsoft Games folder.  Now open up the Halo folder and then open the CONTENTS folder.  Now before you go any further, open up halo and check to see what your screen resolution is (For those who don't know how to find this, click settings on the halo main menu and go to video settings, and then look at the two numbers at the top) and then remember the last number.  For example, My resolution is 800 x 600, so I would remember 600.  Anywho, back to changing the text color.  From the CONTENTS folder, open up the LOG with the last number of your resolution.  I would open the 600log.  now a window should come up telling you windows can't open up the log.  Well don't worry, because windows has no clue what it's talking about.  Just click the bullet beside "Choose a program to run this in?" (It should look something like that, at least).  Now scroll down and choose Notepad to open it in and click OK.  Now you're going to see a whole bunch of computer talk.  All you need to know is that line that says

textcolor="#ffffffff" (that's 8 f's, which is the code for white text color)

Now regretably, I only know one code, but the color is a perfect blue text that shows up against any background, and is quite easy to read.  Just backspace the f's and replace them with this:

textcolor="#0000CC" Make sure you use zeros and capital c's for this.

I'm sure you can find a list on the internet of all the codes.  If any of this confuses you (which I wouldn't be surprised if it did) contact me through xfire so we can get together on vent so I can explain. ;D

List of colour numbers follows:

Probably has most of the colours you'll ever need to use in such a situation.
Enjoy!

Well I've just proven to myself that I can be a big danger to my computer.  I too wanted to change my text color so I down loaded and ran the Xhzjangs font editor.  I then tried to run Halo only to discover my exe file would not bring up the program.  After much fiddle with no success I decided to uninstall and reinstall the game.

Now I can access Halo but when I add  -console to my desk top exe I cannot see or transmit any 'in game' text.   Grrrrrrrr.  So I uninstalled and reinstalled again.  This time checking before I inserted -console.  Text works fine but  again after adding -console to my command prompt I'm back to NOT seeing text again.  The rcon screen works fine and i can kick and ban if needed.  But can't see or display any in game chat which means my macros are not working.

I almost forgot to say I'm running Vista.  I also have Halo CE in which everything is running fine, no text problems.

I hope I've given enough explanation that someone can help an oldman out.  :)

Time is free, but it's priceless.  You can't ownit, but you can use it.  You can't keep it, but you can spend it.  Once you've lost it you can never get it back.

Maybe...I just was able to duplicate your issue on my PC or at least similar.

Make sure when you open the editor that there is a selection for the button "Font Type"...it's a default window that will open if you've ever changed text face, color, size, etc.  I hope that does it for you....once I selected like Arial & blue & size 10, mine came back.  BUT...I was anxious for a moment!!  DOH!

Invert, the same happened to me and WaTy. I suggest taking the approach SONIC outlined in this thread and DONT use the font editor. It's insanely glitchy.
