oh, by the way blue screens can either be caused by your HDD going mad and going kaboomski

the operating system deleting its own files (thank you very much micro$oft)

or your hardware being faulty. mainly your RAM. if your RAM chips are bugged then thats it. the computer can retart, data lost bluescreened and many other nasties. download memtest and test your RAM. thats if you still had the PC xD

Cell phones will ALSO scramble a hard drive!

One time I had my cellphone next to my monitor, then someone called me and the monitor screen started shaking like water.

That will happen with CRTs, and it will also come in over headphones as a beeping noise. Cordless home phones will not harm the computer, they use an entirely different communications protocol than cell phones. They are also much much shorter range and less power. The cell phone, when "pinged" by the tower to announce itself, or when it announces itself to the network to stay registered, uses a near supercharged power burst (not quite 911 level!) to alert any nearby and ranging towers of it's presence (this is also how they can track a cell phone). I can't exactly say as to the wattage level of this burst but I'm pretty sure it's between 15 and 40 watts! If you happen to call 911, you may notice that your phone becomes quite warm as the conversation goes on and the battery starts to die...this is because the phone has that 911 power level programming to make sure the call gets heard even in the most severe of conditions. I'm also pretty sure this power level is way outside the FCC regulations for the general usage of the phone.

It's kinda like the CB'ers with the illegal kilowatt boosters.
License and registration, sir!

Ok, I now know.
We didn't get it fixed.
We got it replaced.

Did they move the existing data/installed system over tot he new one, or was it "built from scratch?"

If the latter, I'd check for magnets again, because it's either that, you're doing something unwise to your computer, or you have really rotten luck!

If they copied ANYTHING over from the old system the problem might very well have been brought over to the new computer, too....

I don't know about that.
I am going to ask my parents.
Hopefully, they will know,
and I hope that Dell didn't copy anything from the old one.
