Super Smash Bros. Brawl Competition Rules.
« on: March 17, 2008, 06:06:05 PM »
1. You are limited the use of one character that you use through out the whole competition, and yes, you can use secret characters (I said this because someone asked me).

2. NO Healing Items during the competition what so ever to make it a fair fight.

3. No profanity, gloating, or name calling in the use of the taunts.
Example: "You Noob!", "You Suck", or "You Have No Skill".

4. You must set the game to setting of 15 stocks (lives)

5. ONE Map will be played per round of the competition.

If you have any other oppinions on what else should be a rule, please speak up, and it might be considered.

1. Is fine.

2. Items make it unique, and competitive.  I would honestly prefer there to be items.  Let's see what everyone else thinks.

3. Of course

4. 3 minutes is awfully short.  Make it around 5-7 minutes.

5. Perfect.

The reason I put rule #4 is because you can only save the video if it has been 3 minutes or less.  If it exceeds 3 minutes, you cannot save it at all.

I have just edited rule #5.
Is, best 3 out of 5 with time limit of 3 minutes good for you?

Ok, tell me if this suits you just fine.

I have changed rule #2, rule #4, #5 back to 2/3,
and added another rule.

Could someone delete the “Split SSBB Competition?” Thread?

Just a few suggestions, this doesn't neccessarily pertain to the rules, but it may help with the tourney.

Not sure about "no health items," but if you feel its neccessary, I don't think its a problem.

15 stock seems to be a little too many.  This might result in a 20 minute brawl if the two players are too closely matched.  Though later in my suggestions this might be better.

One map per each round is very good.  Maybe start out with maps that don't change for the first couple rounds, and then progressively make the maps harder in terms of skill needed to move about.  i.e. first round starts at battlefield, 2nd round a little harder, maybe pokemon stadium near the top of difficulty?  I'm not sure, since I've barely played brawl, but I have played Melee.

And it seems like there's too many people to get a true round-robin tourney, so maybe do a double-elimination tourney?  A championship bracket where everyone starts and a consolation bracket as a last chance for those who lose a match.  This in my opinion is better that a single-elimination bracket, because sometimes you get unlucky, and second-chances help skill outweigh luck.

The rules are very good the way they are.  Just these slight improvements may help with the organization of the tourney and so forth.
You blame me?  Remember it had to get past 10 other players before I saw the ball.

Thanks to Spidey for this sig!                                                                                                                  .

Since I put 15 lives on the rules, I am going to take the best 2 out of 3 or best 3 out of 5 off the rules.
You all can take a practice warm up before you take the real fight though.  Only one warm up is allowed.
