Title: Octane flies (motor accident)
Post by: BFM_Octane on November 02, 2013, 04:35:19 AM
Hi guys

Still alive, but very lucky. Car pulled out on me, driver not looking, and I somersaulted across the bonnet and down the road... joy.

My left hand battled hard with the left handle bar on impact... And actually snapped the handlebar. Ive broken my wrist n thumb but still, those pints of milk paid off over the years. Going back to hospital on Monday for a check up. Now the adrenalin has worn off, im in a lot of pain in various places. Luckily no spinal injury due to the backpack I was wearing but my legs aren't so good.

So JSYAK, Ill be gunning for the next few weeks, and i really dont like that lol.

Glad to hear you're alright Octane. Unfortunately riders usually come off second best, at least your injuries are not more severe!

Excuse to buy a new bike? :)

Get a real car, you hippy!

But seriously, that's really scary. I'm glad it wasn't worse, hope you fix up soon. Take it easy, yo.

Thanks for telling us

 it was a heavy and large 125 but well tuned over time, 250 block had plenty of metal to play with, personally the best looking 125 out there and great for knee-down practice. One on the left. Though i had resprayed it matt black since this photo.

Ill be upgrading to larger bike next year with friends when weather gets better again.

What is a car?  :interesting:

Glad you alright and escaped major injuries. Drivers don't seem to pay much attention and pull out in front of people. I had a friend that was in a fatal accident a few months ago because a truck driver wasn't paying attention to the road. Motorcycles are dangerous but glad your alright. ride safe!

Get well soon! Some of us can't stand driving a hog so we'll need our gunner's seat back ASAP. = )

Also, I wonder how DJing will go with only one good hand. Hrm...

It's a shame life doesn't come with its integrated 'space bar' for braking. Glad you're safe Octane!

Noddu Nod of Approval  :Woop: :Woop: :Woop: ... for your athletic abilities at somersaults

Thanx all.

Went back to the hospital last Thursday for pins to be put in wrist (i've broken it the common way, scaphoid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scaphoid_bone) bone?).

I echo what Mxys sayin. I wouldn't have come out of this so well had it not been for the protective gear. I see all the time people riding in standard clothes, t-shirts 'n tracksuit pants etc. I guess they've got some spare skin at home!

And another one I was taught well : Glad I lifted up off the seat ready for the impact... :siderofl:

For adults the scaphoid is definitely one of the most common ways to break your wrist... I see that most days at work. The mechanism is typically when you put your hand out and it takes a large amount of weight, usually to break your fall. This specific fracture is very important to treat properly (blood supply, difficulty in identifying fracture). With the orthopedic involvement they are obviously treating you very well! And yes folks for those of you who don't know I take pictures of broken bones (among other things) for a living.

*cough*If you have x-rays I'd love to see them*cough*

Keep us updated!....

Really glad you are ok Octane. I can empathize with you after being in a bad accident a few years ago, and also having pins (screws) placed in my arm 2 weeks ago. Not much fun. Hope your recovery goes well. Take care.

I go back on the 19th (Think its Mon/Tues next week), Ill ask em if its possible. I can understand why people get a buzz from looking at them. Skeletons are just plain cool.

This is what i've done, on the left side. The pins are put in when the scaphoid is broken and the bone parts have come too far apart to mend on its own.

You're the Terminator now, or something. Does that stay in there forever?

Well I know I could* have done with having a series 800/850 (http://terminator.wikia.com/wiki/Series_850) endoskeleton on the night it happened lol.

Ive been put in a new cast for another 4 weeks before I know whether the pin has to stay. Good grief that wrist has gone thin too I noticed! I'm losing my symmetry! Hehe.
