New problems running Halo
« on: July 24, 2019, 07:18:05 AM »
I had got it working, but have just tried to run it lately and i get so far as the first splash screen before it goes back out of full screen and turns into this on my desktop, and goes no further.

Have to remove it via the task manager to close it, after which the exception error window pops up.

I've not messed about with any settings apart from going into game's properties and trying to run it in lower resolution.

The only other thing i can wonder is, i recently got hold of and installed SPV3 (HUGE singleplayer campaign mod, expands on every level and makes it more challenging, even in easy, awesome work, more weapons, more enemies such as brutes and flood types, highly recommend it, available at Halomaps.org)
But i could have sworn it was its own seperate program/entity/whatever so im not expecting it to cause these issues with the original copy of Halo. Ill uninstall it in the meantime but if anyone else has had the above problem and fixed it please let me know.

Some (probably obvious) questions, in no particular order:

- Did you install using the disc, or some kind of virtual copy?
- Have you tried running the game in compatibility mode?
- Really the first thing you should try is uninstalling the mod (and uninstalling/re-installing the game) and seeing if you still have the same issue.
- There was a patch to be installed, but I don't know if it was just for multiplayer, or for the whole game.

Yes, used the disc and my own key
Yes, tried running in different windows versions
Latest patch (unofficial) installed.

Have just run it in forced 640 x 480 resolution (from the properties options). My mouse detected the main screen menu and running the mouse over the options on the main menu but the screen was still only showing my desktop.

So im wondering which file in the halo installation folder i can open to change the resolution before the game loads up. Im guessing its a configuration file i should be able to open up in note pad. Time to explore...

(Mod runs off Halo Custom Edition)

I swear I had a similar issue when I installed, but that was a long time ago.

For the patch(es), I think you have to do two/both of them. There's a patch_109 and then halopc-patch-1.0.10 .

Have you tried running it in a window via the property options?
Being a good racer in Halo isn't just about getting the best times. You have to know where your teammates and enemies are, and most of all... how to be crafty! XD -nods-

Oh... and "v.v" = sad face.

Props to Plixity for the first sig, Slayton for the Season XIII trophy sig, and Jane for the banner! Thx guys! ^.^

Have fixed it. Had to add -vidmode 1920,1080 to the end of the target line.
