three red rings of light on my 360?
« on: April 09, 2009, 12:14:25 AM »
I had bought my 360 1 month ago (preowned) and when i came back this monday
i turn it on and i see these scary looking red rings of light:

So now i unplugged all the wires, left it for 10 minutes and when i came back it was fine!
I play on it for however long on xbox live, then i go out for a bit. When i return, it has the red rings again, and when i unplug the wires and put them in again it doesnt work still!

Although i have rung up game to ask for a refund etc (as the 360 broke inside the warranty)
if anyone has experienced this and knows anything that might help then it will be deeply appreciated!

This happened to my friend and he tried all sorts of things but in the end he simply had to buy a new one (He was 6 months out of his warranty). I do not believe there is a fix for this problem, but i also believe you can get a full refund if it is still in warranty.
Good luck to you, but also the problem may lie in it being pre-owned- you see the newer versions of the 360 are supposed to have less of a tendency for this to happen...but it pobably could still occur.....
Sorry im not of much help, but have you heard back from Game yet?

Thanks so much for the Aussie-Orientated sig Renegade!

Thanks for the 3v3 sig Lucky!

well from what i can work out the rrod is a over heating isue and once it has the rings its kaput  ::) so all i can offer is advice. "when your not playing games u turn it off and unplug it !!"

its just like MS to make a light that tells u to give them more $$  :interesting:

Okay. Happened to me 3 weeks ago.

What I want you to do, is turn it on. Wait for the lights. Then once they start flashing, press "Eject" and "Synch" at the same time. Do this three more times. Then put the sequence of the lights flashing in this thread. I'll get back to you :)

Ah nevermind then. Good deal :)

Wrong :P. It could be a number of possibilities. There are thousands of reasons for the Red Rings. But since his worked after he left it alone, it sounds like an overheat. We'll wait for him to get back though :P

this happened to me daily during the summer before we put the AC in upstairs (where the xbox is) the other thing that would happen would be that the power source's light would be red and not provide power. when i had to do was turn the AC up full blast and unplug the powersource from the wall and the xbox. after about half an hour, the room was around 65F from about 90F, first I plugged in the power source, the light was yellow and then the xbox. everything worked fine from then on. If this happens, just dont use it for about an hour and it would be fine. Also, dont leave the xbox on if not playing. When it goes into standby, I believe some of the fans inside shutoff, causing a greater buildup of heat. If you must leave it on for an extended period, get a fan to blow air through it or chill the room with an AC.

hope this helps and wow, this is the longest post Ive ever written lol

I've always heard that if you do get the RROD(Red Ring of Death) and it can't be fixed by unplugging it and letting it set for a while, as long as you registered your 360 that you can send it back in and they will replace the 360 (minus all the downloads) for free. Just have to pay shipping.  Think they will do it even after the warranty runs out too.  but make sure you registered the 360 when you got it. :)

I've read some horror stories about the gpu actually "desoldering" from the mobo and that's its repairable if you know what to do (internet). You are lucky that it was still in its warranty window.

My friend/nextdoor neighbour got this a few days ago. I'm not sure if he's fixed it yet. I don't think it is fixable. He's devastated. :P
