Title: WHAAAAAT'S THIS SOOOOoooNNG?!?
Post by: MrMxyzptlk on June 27, 2013, 02:12:18 PM

I know I've heard this (or very similar) chamber-like music played in this (http://www.youtube.com/embed/i_kCJe_VZ-E?rel=0) elsewhere, but for the life of me I can't place it at all! (And I'm not alone: dozens of others on-line are searching for its source.)

One site states that it is music made specifically for their commercials, but I don't care! I want to find music like it so I can obtain for my own collection.

Help, please?  Even just an artist/ensemble or two that I can check out to find similar stuff to purchase....

The Piano Guys on YouTube do covers of popular songs using cellos and (yes) pianos, and get creative using those instruments. Break of Reality seem to use only cellos and none of the smaller stringed instruments you can hear in the commercial. Bond, a female string quartet using electronic instruments, makes dancey music but probably not what you're looking for.

I find it unlikely you heard any chamber music with that sort of melody or chord progression. The rhythms and chord progression don't fit into the baroque idiom.

It sounds like an interesting rendition of “Love is Blue” but as for the performing artists, I know not who (sorry, couldn’t resist…)

Anyway, Jane had some good suggestions but there is also this (http://www.yo-yoma.com/home) guy and his friends that got together to create The Goat Rodeo Sessions.  Or his Hush album may fit your requirement better.  But anything from him is worth hearing.

And to go to the fringe, there are these guys (http://mmw.net/) that have some interesting music although many songs may not be within your chamber-like music definition.  But songs like this (http://www.last.fm/music/Medeski,+Martin+and+Wood/_/Shine+it) and Last Chance To Dance Trance (Perhaps) (http://www.mp3va.com/medeski-martin-wood-friday-afternoon-in-the-universe-r185334) may come close.

In any case, tell us what you find and/or find out about that song.

I read that it was "Sunrise" by Today Kid but you'll have to buy it if you want to know for sure. I couldn't find the whole song anywhere on the net.

Yeah, it's not "Sunrise," nor anything else by Today Kid, despite the several references. (All of which I checked out....)  A few sites give similar references, but they're not what's in the ad at all....

Well, I was hoping for a simple/direct answer, but it looks like that's not happening.  :'(

I guess I'll put this at the end of my "list of things to search out someday" for future hunting then.

Thanks folks.

I sent them a very nice E-mail requesting the info. I'll let you know if I hear anything back.
