Here's the rig my son and I built - for HIM! - last year, and have decked-out a bit since:

My Halo rig is: Custom built (by MrMxyzplk & son, MoNsTeR/Assassin)

    Processor/Type/Speed: Intel (E6500) Core 2 Duo 2.33Ghz Dual Core
CPU fan: Thermaltake TMG i1 (CL-P0370)
    Motherboard: ASUS P5N-E SLI
    Ram memory/type/amt/speed: 2x1GB Corsair 800Mhz
    Video Card type/speed/memory: Dual (SLi-config) 7950GT 1.43 GHz/256-bit/512MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 (each)
Case:  Raidmax Sagitta (Black w/blue grill LEDs)
Power Supply: Raidmax RX-630 "Volcano" 630W, Low noise, Blue LED's

    Video card driver: BFG/nVidia
OS & service pack: XP Pro SP2
    DX version: 9c
    Monitor size/type/qty.: 24" LCD 1920x1200 Westinghouse L2410NM
    Mouse, type: Razer Copperhead
Keyboard (or similar device) type: Razer Taranula w/ add-on gaming light

Internet connection, type/speed/provider: [shared] Comcast cable Standard (4-6Mbps dn / 368kbps up)
    Modem, type: Motorola Speedstream

    Additional Items:
    Saitek Cyborg EVO gaming joystick
7.1 Headset: Razer Barracuda (REALLY! It has multiple speakers inside each ear cup!!)
5.1 Speaker system: Altec Lansing FX5051
Additional blue LED: "feet"; ultra-quiet intake & exhaust fans
    1 ultra-quiet PCI-slot fan

Lemme tell ya: Games look SO AWESOME on this thing, when he bumps up all the video options to "high" and you see it at 1920x1200!!!
And I balanced the airflow (used stick-on strip thermometer and some paper "streamers") to adjust it so the fans spin low-speed (quiet) ...and the thing runs cooler than mine does!

Wow.  _idk_
You’ve got to fight, fight, fight, for FSU
You’ve got to scalp ‘em Seminoles;
You’ve got to win, win, win, win win this game
And roll on down and make those goals
For FSU is on the warpath now,
and at the battle’s end she’s great
So fight, fight, fight, fight to victory,
our Seminoles from Florida State.
F-L-O-R-I-D-A S-T-A-T-E
Florida State, Florida State, Florida State, WOOO!

I'll be the first to post from the Mac end of the spectrum:

Apple Mac PowerBook G4 (15")
1.33 GHz processor (from the pre- dual-core days... machine is about 3.5 years old)
512 KB L2 cache
1GB RAM
64MB ATI Rage 9600

... and some other mumbo-jumbo stuff that 'Medic can tell you about.  It gots a "on" button, a mousie-clickie thingy, and it's all silvery and stuff.  And an Apple logo that glows on the back. I also run an extra monitor (20" Dell flat screen), so usually when I'm racing I only get 32 of that 64MB from the video card.

I am just a humble man.  A simple man. I need no glowy-flashy-mouse, no illuminated cooling fans!  (Yeah, sour grapes, totally).

   ^^^^ See! It's NOT MY MACHINE!  It's MoNsTeR's!

My machine is over THREE YEARS OLD and has a Prescott chip from the first run of them!  (Folks: That's OLD SCHOOL! It's the first hyperthreaded CPU!)

My screen is all laggy and stuff, and I run it on the LOWEST SETTINGS!

(I'm hoping to get MoNsTeR's machine when he goes away to school!  d_b )

May I ask how much Monster's Rig cost? Aside from the monitor and accessories.

:o

That's quite the machine there Mxy/Monster!

I guess I'll be the second to post my Apple rig.  I know most of it, but had to look up some details using an app called Mactracker.  Apple has their own pages for it but I don't remember how to find them and I'm lazy.  ;D

Model: MacBook Pro, the first Apple laptop with Intel processors
2.0 GHz Core Duo (Yonah), 2 MB shared L2
667 MHz bus
2 GB SDRAM - DDR2, PC2-5300 (2 DIMMS using interleaved mode)
100 GB internal HDD @ 7200 rpm
500 GB external HDD on eSATA through an ExpressCard ... card
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600, 256 MB GDDR3 (dedicated, I believe)
Built-in 15.4 inch LCD @ 1440x900
External ViewSonic VA720 LCD @ 1280x1024
External mouse Logitech (laser; wireless, not Bluetooth), no model number on it and I don't remember
External keyboard, Macally iKey (full size; I hate laptop keyboards for extended use)
Mac OS X 10.4.10 dual boot with Mac OS X 10.5.1

It's about 2 years old now (my previous one was at least 4 when I replaced it).  Incidentally, yes, I can play with the maximum graphics options on Halo. ;D

~$1200

Over half of which was spent on the graphics cards, I think?

Well, um, we got it mostly because it WAS ON SALE, and kismet said that he HAD to get it because of the blue LEDs! (By that point he had a thing going for the blue LEDs!  ::) )

But we loved the specs, and the dual PCI-E connectors and AMPLE wattage, which was needed to heat up, er, run the dual BFG cards.

I'd advise getting it, either the 530W or the 630W depending on your needs.... (It's really quiet, too!)

Read review of it here.

It also has very clean cables, that conform very well to almost any shape, making it extremely practical. I would recommend it.

Should have got an AMD :P
My pc's older, and I don't have to run halo at 640x680 (or whatever it is)

Although I've little doubt some things'd be better with a brand new pc.

You know it off my heart :P
(Start > right click "My Computer" > Properties
For more specific details like the model number of your HDD go hardware tab > device manager)
