Patch 1.7 over 1.6..?

Yeah so I know you have to get the patch for 1.7 to play in the bfm server which makes sense since it is the newest patch so far. But I hate the fact that we're one of the only servers that are using 1.7 and since I just started playing I am leaning away from getting the patch till I'm a higher level and have unlocked more guns.


I guess what I'm asking is why 1.7 now if everyone else is still using 1.6?

I don't know where you've gotten your info but 1.7 has 6000+ servers and quite a bit of servers with people in them, and there's no point to unlocking stuff on 1.6 since you qill have to most likely start over on 1.7

Maybe Ninja & I are missing something.  I too am new to COD4, wanted to play on the BFM server but couldn't until I upgraded to 1.7.  So I did and the only server I can go into is the BFM server.  All the other servers are showing 1.6.  Now with Halo it only displays the servers that match your version.  COD4 seems to be different.  So if there are 6000+ servers out there using the 1.7 version, I am not seeing them.  If there is something we need to do or some servers that you could suggest, I would like to know.  For now I reinstalled so I can play in a server.

I don't know if this is the answer, but try a 1.6-1.7 patch. That's what it's called.

I got mine from xfire because I trust it more than anything I'll find on FileFront or other sites.

If you don't like xfire for your downloads, google 1.6-1.7 cod4 and there are several places to go.

I don't know if it's related, but I had trouble after downloading the patches individually (1.6 and then 1.7) so uninstalled them and got the "combo" and it worked after. Others, probably most, downloaded them individually though. Or maybe I never uninstalled them in the first place and the problem was separate.

This is why they keep turning down my JANE's Tech Support Corner idea.


EDIT: Oooooh. Found this: THIS [v1.7] PATCH IS INCREMENTAL: You will need patch v1.6 installed for v1.7 to work.

Well, I don't if the 1.6-1.7 thing even matters, or if it's both patches or what, just that it somehow worked for me. But I must have DLed 1.7 first and had trouble and no one else did. So download 1.6 and then 1.7 and I guess that should work. 1.6 is the "main" patch (added new maps, fixed a few probs), while 1.7 fixes things that was wrong with it, that's why they both have to go together, with 1.6 there first.

When I downloaded the 1.7 patch before I could only play on server that are hosted using version 1.7. When you click the info for more then 50% of the servers in the lobby (more like 95% lol) they all say version 1.6. When I first installed the game I couldn't join the bfm server because it is using version 1.7. After downloading the patch I could play on the bfm server but not join a single server in the lobby because they are using version 1.6, I guess I wanna know how to find the servers using 1.7 since I don't see a single one in the lobby :/

That's odd considering the patches only show the servers that are using that particular patch...or is supposed to.

Yeah.. it was kinda weird.. I am using 1.6 right now due to not being able to see 1.7 servers, So yeah idk, just a question, do you have to join the bfm server through xfire because you can't see it in lobby like others I hear have to, and if not why do I

Did you install all the previous versions first in the correct order? 1) If yes, then could you please pm me your xfire and I can send you the 1.6-1.7 patch I used to update my game. 2) If no, that would be the first thing you need to do.

When I install cod it's already version 1.6 so all i can install is 1.7 patch it won't let me work from before 1.6, but yeah I guess xfire me it :/

I got my version of COD4 at christmas.  When I installed the game it was version 1.6.  I installed the 1.6-1.7 patch. then tried the 1.6 patch which said I was on the current verion and would not run.  I saved my Player Profile and reinstalled from disk which is currently 1.6.  I am willing to try the 1.6-1.7 patch again.

Yeah I just got the 1.6-1.7 patch from xfire like Jane said and it seems to be working just fine now

Chill and Ninja I have seen this before. The problem is where you got the patch from. Ninja, Jane has taken care of you, Chill get with me and I will get you a good version of the patch.
