Title: *FIXED* new hard drive not recognised!
Post by: BigShot on July 16, 2008, 12:43:21 PM
ok, i bought a new used 80 gig harddrive for my pc. we set it all up, i can see it in bios but in my computer, its not there.

basically, the OS says that its there but for some reason my computer is not displaying it. i was thinking that it may have the same disk name as one of the other disks on my pc, because i have the slots for digital camera slots, there are alot of letters taken up as drives.

any help would be greatly appreciated, me and my friand have no-idea whats wrong :(

 *UPDATE*
i may have gotten it, i created a partition and now i can see it, its just formatting... very slowly, should have a verdict in a few hours :)

*RE-UPDATE* after a lenghty formatting, the drive works :)

random web forums found on google that point you to the help section of the HD maker's website that point you to a microsoft page telling you how to set up partitions are awsome arn't they? XD

Device Manager sucks....

I own a copy of a great commercial program (PartitionMagic, one of many) that let's me slice & dice disks up, hides partitions, and all kinds of goodies! Even runs from the CD! (So can boot to CD and carve up brand-spankin' new systems with blank HDDs!)

Check 'em out! (http://www.download.com/3120-20_4.html?tg=dl-20&qt=partition%20manager&tag=srch)  Some are even freeware!
