Comfortable headphones for sleeping with? (ANSWERED)
« on: August 16, 2007, 07:09:49 PM »
Here's the situation- I love to listen to music when I go to sleep (orchestral, soft electronica, light jazz, etc.).  However, I currently live in an apartment, and any major sounds can be easily heard in the adjacent apartments.  The major problem is my subwoofer, as many songs I listen to consist of good bass parts (not boom boom thump thump stuff), but I have to turn it completely off so that it doesn't send the vibrations through the floor.  Is there a set of wireless headphones that have great sound quality but are comfortable to wear and don't slip off while you're sleeping?

That's why I can't use those, as I roll around while sleeping and on/cover headphones would fall off/break, while earphones/buds would end up getting jammed in my ear.

However, I found this, and it's exactly what I'm looking for (sadly it is not wireless but I can deal with that).

LOL, Nice. You can also use those headphone where they don't go on top of your head but around the back of your neck. I think those work well.

Flops, report back, I'd like to know how they sound. I go to sleep with earbuds and it works OK for me, but this looks like an improvement.
Sincerely,
Daigoro

Ya, um, earbuds with a headband didn't cut it when I put that setup together myself long, long ago.  You still get tangled in/with the cord when you toss/turn....

I had a version similar to this, under-pillow stereo speaker system that I got years ago from The Sharper Image, but alas, I don't see the one that I had anywhere anymore.  (The one I linked to is real close, but I can't speak to it specifically, I'm afraid....)

My trick for that "under-pillow" solution was to actually put it UNDER THE FITTED SHEET, with the cord running out the head of the bed.

It worked great for me!

Are you going to give lucid dream training a try while you're at it, Flopsie?  :)

I like that idea MUCH better, as $60 for that seemed a little pricey.  But what do you put under the sheet, earphones/buds or actual headphones?

I don't really care for lucid dreams, so I won't be trying it. :D

Assuming that your talking about my post of the under-pillow speakers... (That's where they're designed to be placed.):

1) They're $29.95 from that site. (Where did you get $60 ?!?) But watch out for S&H $$ !

2) They're not ear-type devices at all.  They're FLAT (5/8"-thick, ~4" square) speakers, which - despite what you might think about that spec' - might sound very good! (The ones that I had were about that size, too, and being under you pillow has two advantages: their size really doesn't matter, and strangely - the tone is excellent! (Again, your mileage may vary with the specifc speaker/product.)

So NORMALLY you simply lay out the speaker "strap" under your pillow and run the cord out the top and around to your source.

However, I'm a face-down pillow-hugger, so I woulda made a mess out of even THAT arrangement!  Soooo I put the thing right on top of the mattress, and then made the bed (with  the mattress pad & bottom (fitted) sheet over the whole affair) as if the speakers were built into the mattress itself.

I never had a problem with that arrangment at all.

'Hope that answered your questions!

P.S. Here's a Google search link for more info and other purchase sources.... (They go for $19 @ Amazon from multiple sellers.)

Thanks Mxy! ;D

(And what I meant to say in my previous post was that the pillow speakers are a much better deal than the $60 headbandphonesspeakerthings. ;))

Sorry for the double post, but I was just wanting to let everyone know that the Pillowsonic Speakers are awesome.  I heard every single part of the music in great detail, but when I got up to get a glass of water, I couldn't hear a thing, which is just what I needed.  The only thing I don't like is how high I have to set the volume in order to hear it, but I believe that's because I have it under the mattress cover, instead of just the pillow.
