*FIXED* Vid Card is good for Halo but not good for.....
« on: August 09, 2008, 03:02:15 PM »
my Video Card is an NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 and for some reason it works for Halo but not KOTORII(Knights Of The Old Republic Two) for PC. and this card is only a year old.

here what it says:

Video-FAILED .... reason= Your current video card drivers are out of date NVidia cards requires Detonator 45.23 drivers or better
the thing is, is that my card and computer were updated less than a year ago and this game came out like 3 years ago......  :bang:

OpenGL-FAILED-.... reason= Required: Non-Windows Generic OpenGL 1.4.0 drivers
i have no clue what to do with this

pretty much all i am looking for is if i am out of date what should i get( nothing too expesnsive of course)

PS i am probably just gonna return it (got it really cheap lol) if i have to do too much up dating.

pls help

well,
unfortunately your missing out on one of the best games ever made in the game history.

but i did some research for ya and couldn't find much.  but it sounds like you just need to download the detonator drivers from nivida.  i may be wrong but i bet MrMxy can help you here.

as for your non windows OpenGL i couldn't even find anything on that.  maybe your video card is just messed up.

if you want a decent card that is decent price then you can go with the one i have ant that is the Nivida GeForce 7300LE.  it runs halo with everything maxed out in terms of graphics and it can run fear at medium to high graphics.  i'm sure it can run KOTORII.  the only bad thing is it can only be bought online.  if you want a good one from a store then may i recomend going to best buy.
if you ask me to slow down when racing, then you are out of luck buddy. I AM AN AGGRESSIVE DRIVER!!!
the fastest way to a point is a straight line, no matter the danger, i like to take chances, I AM A RISKY DRIVER!!!

Ok, let's get right to it.  DO NOT HIT YOUR COMPUTER AS CARL DOES

Although that card isn't a year old, its not a very good video card at all also.

By the look of things, the video card seems far and away capable of playing this game.

Have you tried updating the drivers?

I took the liberty of finding the most recent driver packs for that card.
If you're using Windows XP, click here
If you're using Windows Vista, click here
(bear in mind that those are the 32-bit versions, alternatives will be needed if you have a 64-bit edition operating system)

i got it for free so i could play halo so i wont complain about it, besides the fact that it stinks. i think i will invest in a new one, my brother is coming home in a few hours and is extremely good with computers (he built this one im on right now) he used to fix, build, and update computers as his J O B.

Ah. Found the problem. Don't scrap the card just yet.
Apparently the game has trouble seeing newer cards (esp. in Vista, if that's what you're using). Just looking to see if a fix is available.

GJ, Slanzinger!  d_b

FYI, and to pass along to others when they're in the same soup:

I usually do NOT recommend this, but in a case where it's obvious that new drivers are needed, I advise this method. (I'd usually check the manufacturer's website for the latest drivers first, tho, but sometimes that's not possible, or just too daunting....)

Do a "voluntary" Microsoft Windows Update, as follows:

0) Open IE, select "Tool" -> "Windows Update"

1) (Possibly other mumbo-jumbo, but get through all that to be able to) select the "Custom" button.

2) (Possibly more mumbo-jumbo to get through, but ...) when the Windows Update menu page (finally!) shows (witht he left-hand menu pane titled "Windows Update Home") select the "Hardware, Optional (x)" menu item.

3) if (and ONLY IF) the device in question - the one needing newer drivers - is listed there, select the check box in front of it, and continue as if you were doing any other Windows Update procedure:

4) Select "Review and Install Updates," then follow the remaining instructions....

Voila!  You now have the latest - MS-approved! - drivers for your device!

NOTE: As mentioned earlier, I do NOT recommend "just doing this" in order to get "newer stuff."  If everything is working fine on you computer, I advise AGAINST updating any drivers!

Since I run a Vista laptop, the method for voluntary Windows Update is a bit different (Mxy does the method, I just point out the differences).

1) Go to Start > [All Programs* >] Windows Update.

2) If the text "Also Available: x optional updates" appears under "Windows is up-to-date" (or "y important updates"), click it

3) If your card is in the list, check it, then click the Install button

4) Give it admin power and go get a snack!
Congratulations!

I'm thinking that he's referring to when he bought/received it. I know they still sell my FX5500 in various stores even though the chip is about five or so years old as well...
