Err....We had Earth Hour, which we took part in. Earth Hour seemed to be mostly in Australia but happened in New York, Tokyo and many other cities as well around the world.


(We just set up a laptop and watched a movie on battery power for an hour )

I agree, I can imagine the effect would be very negligable, as there are things which cannot be shut off for anything.

If all electricity usage in the world stopped for 10 minutes (and wasn't replaced by other forms of energy usage), then it would be a massive saving in energy consumed.

Well, I think "Earth Hour" was more coordinated and thought out than this attempt....

Why will this attempt PHAIL COMPLETELY?!?

Because it gives no indication of TIME ZONE, so ppl turning things off for 10 measly minutes around the globe - at different times - won't cause a "breath of relief" for our planet at all....

Best thing overall would be to try to get ppl to reduce their power consumption "as much as can possibly be done" something like the first day of EVERY MONTH.  (It's about energy consumption AWARENESS, NOT ONE-TIME SAVINGS!  )
