Story - The Island
« on: September 24, 2008, 05:41:24 PM »
I wrote this story as a portfolio piece.

The Island

The two ships had been flying for a while. All we could see below was water. The water was calm, along with the members in both ships. Through the little windows, we could see that we were approaching an island. The ships started to slow down, and we landed gently. The doors opened, and everyone jumped out. We were on an island.

We loaded our weapons and grabbed some grenades. Each member had eight grenades (two types, four each), and two weapons. Skedog led the group. He is a very courageous man. He knows what’s going on, what could happen, and how to handle everything. Behind him follows his friends Orbit and Destroyer, along with the rest of the crew.

There are many enemies ahead. “Fire!” yells Skedog as everyone charges towards the enemies. The sound of melees against the skulls of the grunts was like music to our ears. Plasmas were thrown against the elites’ heads, since they were the strongest of the bunch. Every now and then, we would randomly get hit by a jackal. Jackals hide behind a shield while shooting at you, so it’s not always easy to see them. Since Skedog was leading the group, he jumped over the jackal and used the butt of his rifle to melee it.

We continued forward. Soon enough, we got word that a hog was being brought to us. The ship we were in before was now approaching slowly. When everyone was out of distance, the ship dropped a hog. Skedog, Orbit, and Destroyer jumped in. Destroyer was driving, Skedog was gunning, and Orbit was in the pA**enger seat (supporting them like always).

“We need to head to the first base,” says Orbit.

“You got it, turkey!” says Destroyer with a smile on his face. He picks on Orbit all the time, and we just laugh every time.

The members of the crew are behind us. They don’t have any hogs, but they’re keeping up. Every now and then we come up to more enemies. Any enemies that we don’t kill by shooting or running them over are killed by the crew. We see a hill in front of us, and stop to get out and reload our weapons and grenades. As soon as we jump back in, Destroyer takes off. We go up the hill, and jump off. We continue up the next hill, and attempt to get the hog around a tree that is in the middle of the path. Destroyer can’t get the hog around, so he jumps out and Skedog jumps in. Skedog gets the hog around, and they switch back. Destroyer keeps driving us up a hill, and we soon see enemies.

Skedog is the first to jump out. He charges towards a hunter and starts killing it, Hunters are very big, and have big weapons. If you receive a melee from one of them, half of your shields will be lost. Plasma grenades are the best to use in this situation. But, the hunters will continue to move towards you after you nade them. If they get close enough, you’ll get killed by your own nade. Skedog and Destroyer are soloing the hunters, while Orbit is left killing the extra grunts and jackals. The mission is successful. We stock up on ammo and grenades and jump back in the hog.

Finally, we have reached a base. We run over the grunts as we get to the top of the base (where the entrance is). We quickly jump out of the hog, as there are two hunters that have been awaiting our arrival. They are quickly killed, and we go inside the base, killing the elites and grunts. Once we reach the end of the base, we take a right. There’s a ramp that goes downhill. Following the ramp, we find more enemies and kill them.

“Don’t let them lock the door!” yells Destroyer, but it’s too late. The door is now locked. “We have to find a way around.”

We head back to the beginning of the base, and jump in the hog. Continuing our path before we stopped at the base, we find more enemies and they are easily killed. We arrived at the next base, and go inside. This base is very confusing. There are so many tunnels, doors, and enemies. We find our way through, and find ourselves going over three bridges.

The first bridge has grunts, the second bridge has one hunter and grunts, and the third bridge has two hunters, grunts, and jackals. At the end of the third bridge, we go through a series of tunnels, and get to a door. The door opens, and we feel a slight breeze. It’s snowing outside! There’s a triangular shaped building to our left, and we find ourselves on a platform full of enemies. We need to get to that building.

We start fighting the enemies, but one jumps into a banshee! We now have two banshees attacking us. Destroyer and Orbit work on the grunts that are running around like chickens with their heads cut off while Skedog kills the banshees.

“The banshees were our only way over to that building,” says Destroyer. “now we have to find our way there on foot.”

“Well, lets get moving. Look! There’s a door ahead of us.” Replies Skedog.

The door opens, and there’s a ramp. Down the ramp we go, killing enemies as needed. Surprisingly, nobody has been hurt yet. Through another door we go, which led to a round building. We restock on ammo, and enter the door. Everything looks clear, so Skedog runs inside. Smack! He receives a melee from an invisible elite. Destroyer runs to kill the enemy while Orbit checks on Skedog. He landed on the floor from the attack.

   “Are you ok?” asks Orbit.

“Yeah, just a little dizzy,” replies Skedog. “It’s all good, let’s keep moving. We don’t have much time!”

The rest of the enemies are clear, and we scavenge our way through a tunnel. It seems like we’ve been going downhill for a while now. There have been so many doors, but we finally realize we’ve reached the last one. We look up, and see the platform we were standing on earlier. This time, the building we need to reach is to our right. Skedog scans the area, trying to figure out what enemies are here.

“I see two hunters, an elite inside of a tank, many grunts, and a few jackals. Let’s clear the area,” says Skedog.

“You got it chief,” replies Destroyer and Orbit.

Destroyer throws a nade on the tank, while Orbit shoots at it. The elite falls out and lands on his head. Skedog has already ventured ahead, killing the little grunts. He finds a hunter and kills it, along with the jackals surrounding the area. We go up a ramp, killing grunts and jackals as we go. We’re low on ammo, so we have to pick up the covenant weapons instead of the usual pistol and A**ault rifle.

It looks like there’s a way to get inside from the top of the ramp. We soon find out we were wrong. Going back down the ramp, we reload our ammo. We go back around the bottom of the building, and discover ghosts on the other side. Ghosts are vehicles that seem to float above the ground, but can’t fly. What do you know, there are three of them! Everyone gets their own ghost, and we go up the ramp on the opposite side, killing the same enemies.
This time we reach the top, finding two more hunters. They’re impossible to run over, so Skedog and Destroyer jump out of their ghosts while Orbit shoots at them from the ghost. The path is clear and we move on. There’s a very big door in front of us. So big that you have to open it via a control panel. Orbit runs to the control panel, while the other two stand back. She hits the button, and runs behind Skedog.

The door opens slowly from the middle. When the doors are open enough, Orbit throws some nades inside. From what she could tell, there were a couple of elites, jackals, and many grunts. They were easy to kill, because our team is awesome and skillful. We jump into our ghosts, and continue into the big tunnel. There’s another door the same size at the end of the short tunnel. Once again, Orbit jumps out and goes to open the door.

It opens, and this time, there aren’t any enemies inside. That seems odd. We slowly go inside, but there aren’t any enemies. At the end of the tunnel is, once again, a big door. Running to the control panel, Orbit opens the door. We run inside, and find our boss. The boss gives Skedog a message, and he reads it outloud.

“Congratulations, guys! You all have made it to the map room. This is where the whole universe is controlled, and it wasn’t easy to get to. We’ve scared the Covenant, and they’re taking drastic measures, so be careful. The island you were on before was called Death Island. You could’ve guessed that one on your own though. You all started the mission at the beginning of year 2552. Now it’s almost year 2553. We have many more missions to take care of, so get moving.”

“Let’s go!” yells Skedog. They jump into the ships, and continue their way.

Also, some filter filtered out the words "passenger" and "assault".  Dunno why  :embarrassed:

awsome! :D BTW, I think that the filtered words are because if you had the two s's in were the astericks are, you would get a word for a.... donkey.... inside of the word.  It seems a little odd, so it may be something else.  ;D
