Photo Manipulation
« on: January 31, 2009, 12:37:47 AM »
Photo Manipulation is a fun, time consuming, and satisfying form of designing. For those who have no clue what it is, it's the art of taking stock photography images, then combining them to make one single picture with a message.

Some people use brushes, some don't. I personally hate using brushes in photo manipulation. It makes it seem uncreative to me. I haven't been doing this long, so this is only my second image I've done.

It's not complete yet. I'm about halfway done right now.

If you create these, feel free to post!

This is about 15+ images combined into 1. So far it's about 2 hours worth of work. I still have loads of blending and more images/effects to add, but it's a start. Each piece of the image was created from scratch and stock photography.

**A lot of people asked me earlier how I got the fire effect from scratch. So here's how...

I found this picture using google

After pasting the picture into mine, I simply rotated it around to surround the Earth. After that, I erased sections I to create the edges you see. For that I used a soft eraser. Lastly I duplicated the fire layer, and set it to overlay to make it a bit more vibrant.

I'm learning all about this in Graphic Design 2 at the moment. We just starting a whole unit on Law and Copyright and we're currently working on a hoax project where we effectively have to create hoax using 3 or more images.

Yours is pretty good though. You could make one look really believable if you took elements that could be naturally found together.
