Gimp is a very good program to use for begginers. Just head on over to http://www.gimp.org/

There are loads of tutorials on the internet, just google it in

I use Gimp 2.4. But if you want your sigs to look cool, you should download some brushes HERE. Check your inbox tonight-tomorrow for further instructions ;)

Photoshop CS2-4 is standard in all Microsoft comps.
Easy to learn and i find it not as confusing as gimp.
