(Not quite as) Confused about Gimp

Hey everybody,

    I know that gimp offers tutorials on their website, but there are those of us who just can't seem to grasp what they're trying to convey. Anyways, my point is.... anyone know of  "GIMP for dummies" kinda thing? -ish a dummy when it comes to image software more complex than MSPaint-

While the Photoshop statement is correct, IMO, it is much better, it is also rather pricey.  I dont really know, how much difference there is between the two of them (ie. what tools are available, what the programs can handle etc.)

Well I'm not really sure of a good sight that is like a "gimp for dummies" tutorial, but if you do ever have any questions you can PM, I use gimp.  I will say it is a little hard to grasp at first.

I actually made something with the help of Spood's tutorial and Spidey's suggestion of just messin' with stuff. XD I doubt I could recreate this and I'm not completely happy with it.. but it's not horrible I guess.




-tries to use way too many layers- XD

Edit: I've decided that I'm going to continue working on this. Luckily I accidentally saved it as an xcf file, so I think I can open it with the separate layers. Woot for accidents?

Good. I ussaly save mine as PDD, which is the counter part of xcf for photoshop. It looks good. And you can never have too many layers.  If you remember ProChurch's sig, that was around 45ish. It just kepy climbing :P

I'm making a sig for MrYoda and its animated, around 630+ frames... thats over 630 layers...

Nice work for a 1st sig.

Oh if your taling Animation. Around 500 layers currently on a sig for someone. Have to make another 130 layers :P

1 tip for ya, if ya dont wanna lose creativity dont use gimp, then for a month use photoshop, then go back to gimp  :doh:

it killed my creativity completely, used to make sigs nonstop, now i make like, 1 a month or sumthin like that...

You know, now there are so many tutorials on GIMPTalk that make GIMP sigs look like photoshop. Looks awesome
