I'm giving it to Kiwi.

It was Sherry, by Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons.

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

There's a woman who sings one, but I don't know her name/group. I'll say Counting Crows and I guess it's called Parking Lot, but I have no clue.

Counting Crows did an excellent cover of it.   Janet Jackson, Amy Grant, Jack Johnson and others have done covers.

That's not the name of the song.  Anyone else know?  Or who originally wrote the song?

Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell....

I didn't know it was Joni Mitchell. For some reason, I had Susie and Walmart in mind. Who knows.

Oh how he can pluck a string
Oh how he makes you sing
Listen, listen to the king

Bridge:
From Balboa to Anaheim
San Bernardino to Riverside
All the kids in all L.A.
Love to hear **** **** play

Hint: 1963

Nope, not The Beach Boys, but it's in the same genre (despite the fact that to mavens of the genre, The Beach Boys don't belong in it....   )

Another hint: He's "King" of this genre, and his "title" is THE title!
