A man was found dead underneath a collapsed, metallic bridge that spanned a small river. There is a walkway on either side of the river going under the bridge also, so that pedestrians can cross under the bridge.

Please help the police identify the cause of his death, and why he died like this.

All right, how can a man be "found dead underneath a collapsed, metallic bridge" but not "under the bridge and the walkway" when "The bridge is most definitely over the river"?

Is there a tangle of metallic bridge rubble (I guess you'd call it rubble) in the river with a dead man under it, also in the river?

Jane, he's under the bridge, but the walkway is also under the bridge so unless he's underground he can't be under the bridge AND the walkway!

I'll answer that bit for you. The bridge is collapsed, but the walkway is still there, unaffected, along the sides of the river.

If he was in the river when the walkway AND the bridge collapsed, he would be under both. Is he sandwiched between the walkway and the bridge?

Is the walkway still intact? I thought it was running under the bridge?

The bridge collapsed onto the river and walkway below. The man was also collapsed on by the bridge (or so it seems - he was found underneath it!) - so now we must figure out how he died

Oh! They're not crossing the river on the walkway, they're crossing under the bridge, still staying on that side of the river. Why didn't you just say that? I thought the walkway ran parallel to the bridge...

Anyway, is whatever crashed into the bridge still there?
