Muzak needs some wheels
« on: October 16, 2009, 05:54:11 PM »
Allright, I need some wheels, and here's a few that I'm interested in.  What do you think?  Have any personal experiences to share?  Pros or Cons?  Any other suggestions for a fun, sporty little car that I can find for less than $3000?  Share, Share!

Personally I would go with a Subaru.  I think they are just overall good cars, and plus they handle very well.  But I'm not really a car savy person so I couldn't tell ya.

Thanks Vintage, it's awesome!

I have seen what all these cars look like due to my dad is a mechanic. So I would go with a newer version of the Toyota MR2. But I could tell you that these cars don't last long ^.^

Ooh, the Prelude is a pretty cool looking little car, I'd get one of those.

And the 3000GT looks cool, but if you find one for less than $3000, it probably won't run very well or for long. And isn't in a rear wheel drive car? Careful with those...

nah, front wheel drive cars are safe as a fly. You just can't have fun with them or anything, it's more of a granny car. But if your gonna do some burn outs and everything, get rear wheel drive.

Mith - I love Subaru as well, but I'm mainly looking for a little, fun, get-around-town car that I can occasionally take on a back-roads country drive.  All the Subaru's I've found in my price range are mostly older wagons, and the WRX is way out of my reach right now.

Afkbot - Really?  Even the Toyota's and Honda's which are so well known for their reliability?  I really don't know a whole lot about Mitsubishi, I just know I really like the style and the specs of the 3000GT.  I'm a little bit of a shade-tree mechanic, do you know if the MR2's are just ridiculous to work on?

Jane - I like the looks of the Prelude too.  I had actually scheduled a test drive for one tomorrow, but just today they sold it, oh well.

So I'm going around tomorrow to look at two different 1985 MR2's, and a 1992 Prelude.  I wasn't able to get in touch with the guy that has the 1992 3000GT, or the guy with the 1992 MR2, but that saves me about 2 hours of travel time anyway.  Not sure quite what to expect, for some reason I'm really drawn to the little, silver MR2.  (poor mans DeLorean?)  But we'll see what I find and I'll fill you all in later.  Thanks so far for your input!

P.S.  If I wind up with an MR2, I'm totally putting this in it...    :muah:

http://www.cargurus.com/images/2009/07/21/04/40/1998-mitsubishi-lancer-evolution-pic-1115.jpeg

It's the same with all the stuff on it besides it's black.

But to be honest It's your choise of what car you want, give them a test drive and go for the one that feels good and runs good! Always check how many miles it's done aswell :)

GAV is right! Toyota would be mans best friend in aussie! They all go for the Toyota hilux utes, which in america would be called a pick up truck?

Well, taking several factors into consideration, it looks like I'll be picking up a little 1985 Toyota MR2 sometime tomorrow!  Yay, I'm so excited!   :yesyes:

Just gonna have a local dealer do an inspection on the car to make sure there's nothing major wrong with it, and if it all checks out, I'll be driving it home.  *crosses fingers*  Will fill you in later with the details.

Allright, here's the new toy!  Had a nice time driving it home.  It's pretty sporty, but also very comfortable and fun to drive.  It's a 1985 Toyota MR2, with only 104k miles on it.  So here's some pics.  Polls are still open, but they don't matter any more...   :XD:

Pretty much everything checked out just fine on the car.  A couple of little things here and there, but nothing major.  A little bit of work and paint on the front, right fender, needs a battery hold-down, and the e-brake is disconnected for some reason.  Why would someone unhook the e-brake, especially on a manual car?  Well, maybe my own mechanic will have a theory.  Anyway, I'm still trying to find a good name for it, any suggestions?
