Did you install the patches (1.6 and/or 1.7?)

The first thing that comes to mind when this happens to me is the video driver. Make sure you are up to date and keyword your video card in a google search:

'NVidia 9800gtx COD4 crash'

The issue you describe is similar to the one I was having with Crysis. I had SLI enabled on my cards and it turns out that Crysis didn't like that.

THANKS  SLAYTON  FOR  THE  A W E S O M E  SIG!!!

Do you know how to find the event logs on your computer?  They may give you some indication.

Control Panel, then probably Administrative Tools, and then Event Logs.

Look at Application Log.  If you do this right after it crashes, it will be at the top.   For example, here is one where vent crashed:

There will be a "Faulting module" - it may have a driver (DLL) name that gives you a hint, like nvidxxxx.dll

See if you can find anything and report back I guess.

Faulting application name: Ventrilo.exe, version: 3.0.4.0, time stamp: 0x49186014
Faulting module name: Ventrilo.exe, version: 3.0.4.0, time stamp: 0x49186014
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00092739
Faulting process id: 0xc24
Faulting application start time: 0x01ca5f5f68baeff5
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Ventrilo\Ventrilo.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Ventrilo\Ventrilo.exe
Report Id: c9b2f13a-cb57-11de-81a2-002618bf4195

The only other thing I can think of is get the latest directX drivers.
