Rule 8.3 - Delayed Progress by Spinning
« on: December 19, 2009, 07:05:40 PM »
I have a question about defense that could be seen as breaking this rule:
8.3. Do not stop or slow your hog, or otherwise delay your hog's progress, including by spinning, for the purpose of allowing your gunner to fire at an opponent.

If I'm driving and I see a gunned rocket hog coming my way, I usually do a spin (both when lone and with gunner) to change my progress hoping the enemy will miss because I'm not where they thought I'd be and then keep going to next nav.  I'm fairly certain this is legal because I've never had a BFM say otherwise, but once in a while a guest might say something about thinking I'm trying to give my gunner extra time to attack.

Any thoughts?

As long as you are using the spinning manouvre for the purposes of defense - dodging an opponents rockets - spinning is perfectly legal. As long as you do not us excessve spins, that is multiple spins to the point where it is unfair on the other team (usually one is enough), spinning is a perfectly good tactic and one encouraged in moderation.

Nrvend is too old. We race in hogs, not wheelchairs.
