Metaphors
« on: December 21, 2009, 11:34:43 AM »
Hey yall, I have an assignment that requires me to make up metaphors for 14 words. 7 of which I can choose and 7 words that are given. I'm working to remember what the given words are.. cause I have the shortest memory known to mankind. But I was wondering if anybody would be willing to help me make my metaphors and or go over them with me. [fail](A week ago I was strugglin to remember what a metaphor even was...)[/fail] So any help would be great. I'm trying to base them all on a theme as well. I had to make a 3D project so I made a small scale truck with some tires from a rc car  :neckbeard:

So I'm trying to theme them on racing or on parts of a truck, which I think is appropriate to said racing clan,

ex. Wheels and suspension

Haha, the 7 words are Love, Hate, Desire, Family, Friends, Work, and School

then I tried doing some for random things that I could think of.. but it didn't turn out so good.

Writing metaphors for those ones could be hard! I'll think about it for a couple of days then get back to you.
Check out my Short introduction... corner and my "Historical figures who should perhaps be better-known" thread!!

a roller coaster could be s a good metaphor for Love, Family or School  ( with twists and turns, ups and downs etc.)

a battlefield/war could be good for School, Family or Work

hate could be something that blinds you, smothers you, pulls you down, holds you back - an undertow?  a disease, a fog?

friends could be something protective like a shield/armor or supportive or comforting (like mom's apple pie or whatever)

school could also be a maximum security prison, 12-15 year sentence with no possibility of parole  - that should get you an A

Desire IS a lonely cupcake.  You're good Miser, very good.  Don't be so hard on yourself.

Hehe Miser you did a lot better then I did. I still don't grasp the fact of a comparison very well without using the word like..

Thank you so much for the great start kiwi I appreciate the help and I especially like the roller-coaster :] I'll try and see what I can do to tweak some of them to my liking problem being.. I still need to make 7 more from different words

Just drop the "like".  Love isn't like a roller coaster, man, it is a roller coaster.

Simple.  You just have to believe it and sell it.

I really like the bad metaphor competitions you see from time to time in the paper or online.

"He was as tall as a six foot, three inch tree"

"Her eyes were like big brown circles with big black dots in the middle"

"Her vocabulary was as bad as like, whatever."

"The red brick wall was the color of a red brick Crayola crayon"

And so forth.

Lol? Is it really a competition for "worst" metaphor.. Or do people have hopes that theirs is good but they get made fun of  :pirate:

I think those are made up intending to be bad.

But there are also competitions for stuff in actual books.
