Graphics question
« on: April 23, 2010, 12:40:32 AM »
Ok Im trying to play Halo 2 for Vista, and Im not able to get past one of the cutscenes due to a poor graphics card/driver. I play using a laptop, so I cant change it out, and Ive already tried omega drivers and such. any suggestions? (aside from buying a new computer :P )

Thanx Benjy for the awesome Siggy!

Thanks TH-7 Erik! Love it!

Assault on the control room? Is that the cutscene that does it?
You can try hitting space or escape to skip it, or lowering graphics settings... especially reflections.

I lowered everything to the lowest setting, and yes I believe that is the level. I managed to skip the cutscene, but it froze when loading. May be the game?

Ok also, I try to play online now and even with all my game settings at their lowest, I still lag a great amount when Im in groups or being fired at, or even when I have a passenger. Note this only happens sometimes, but when it does its so bad I cant play. I really would like to get this fixed because its not fair to me to be racing well then run in to a wall and get rocketed or drive off into a void, and its not very good on my teamates when I take them with me >.<

If you have the game at the lowest and your still getting stunted FPS then seriously you have reached the limit of your laptop. Apart from making sure you have the right drivers and setting everything on the lowest setting there really isnt much more you can do (apart from overclocking, but that isn't something you should do on a laptop).

Get an xbox and play the game on that? :P

hmm, well, you could try upgrading your graphic card, it is possible in most laptops.

i can play it on highest settings online in the aussie server with around 400 to 500 ping

thus low lag comparison :)

yet else you could install and play halo on a reg pc.

i even installed halo on my mem stick once and had plug&play halo, ty last no cd upgrade :)

Well I may put it on a PC when I get one worth even mentioning (you know those ones that have MS-DOS on the start tab? yeah....)

Anyway can you do online play with the xbox version?

Simple: Put "-useff" at the end of the Target line in your Halo shortcut.

'Looks ugly, but often makes it "playable" on lower-end graphics systems.

*edit* Now that I think about it, that won't help with the cut-scenes, sorry.

No it isn't...

Well it is if the laptop has a graphic card and not just integrated graphics.

every laptop i have had, and have seen with friends had the possibility to upgrade or change multiple components.
After purchase?

I've never known them to be upgradable in the usual sense of the word.
Replaceable with a similar/almost identical part, maybe, but not upgradable in the sense that you can just go out and buy a newer/more powerful card.

Obviously didnt read my post. If the laptop has a graphics card then YES it can be upgraded. If the laptop uses only intergrated graphics then no it can not be upgraded.

It is really quite rare to find upgradeable laptops now days, and probably impossible in the real sense of the word upgradeable, since a lot of the better cards are very big and probably wont fit in the allowed space for a graphics card in a laptop anyway. I know from pulling a few laptops apart that they jam all the parts in there quite tightly so there isn't space for expansion with laptops.. (why I've upgraded to a PC :P )

Also how far through the game is this crash? Because I remember hearing that there is a point in the game that it is made to stop and not let you go any further if you don't meet certain specifications (I think it was mainly an XP thing, since it was made for Vista) And I actually got that problem, but I was playing it on XP so my input as far as that's concerned probably won't be helpful..
