For all the hardware geeks out there
« on: June 14, 2010, 04:13:05 PM »
You guys have any advice on a small, effective heatsink? My HP tower has just about the worst heatsink possible, and to add insult to injury, there is very little space for a nice tower/heatpipe HSF.

Requirements:
no larger than about 3.5-4 in tall x 2 wide x 4 long
must fit LGA 775
works better than stock HSF!
Preferred:
Heatpipes
no more than about $40
QUIET!

I'm thinking about the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro. Any of you guys used it?

Thanks to Trael!

Size restriction and a tight budget. I wish someone would go the full yard for me :(.

I am guessing your not planning on overclocking so that heatsink you said will be fine. I cant really find any coolers below $40 that is any significant improvement over the stock cooler anyway plus within the size limit.

Make sure it either comes with thermal paste or buy some (I recommend ARCTIC MX-3)

What do you use, Taipan? If I had no space or price restrictions I'd be using a TRUE but obviously I don't have $60 lying around nor do I have a big case... Though I think I should probably invest in a new case, some NZXT or whatever.
